Recently, I had the pleasure of doing another product review for Splitcoast and this time, we reviewed the JustRite DIY Monogram Stamper and some of their accessory kits. I'd been seeing this monogram kit popping up on blogs all over the place and was super excited to get to try this product out for myself!
Monogram Mysteries Revealed........
Ok, well not really! LOL! Because there's not much mystery to it! This product was veeeery easy to use and it comes with great step-by-step instructions for how to do everything including changing out the ink pad. Click the link to read my Splitcoast Review and see what the other reviewers had to say about this fun product too!
You girlies have had lots of questions for me about how this product works so let's see if I can answer some, shall we? :)
First off, let me tell you how it works. These stamps are designed with little rubber 'tracks' and you select whichever border and letters you want to use, and then simply snap them into place for perfect placement and perfect stamping every time.
Can you just use it with your Stampin' Up! ink pads or do you have to buy lots of the little ink pads that go in the monogram stamper?
You can buy the JustRite monogram stamp kit which comes with a self-inking stamp pad in it. It comes loaded with black ink, but the pad is reversible and is dry on the other side so you can load that side with any color you'd like, simply by using a re-inker that you already have on hand to saturate the pad with ink! OR, you can buy the accessory stamp kits which come with a round wooden block that has the same grid surface for you to snap the monogram pieces into. With this wood block, you can stamp the monogram using any ink pad you already have!
I will tell you that I personally LOVE the ease of using the already inked stamper. It's SO fast and easy and I've put my favorite monogram ensemble in mine, and can put my monogram on anything I want at any time. It's ready to go! My extra wooden blocks are what I use when I want to do a special monogram for someone else or for a card that I'm only making one of. If you had a lot of cards to mass produce with the same monogram, just think how fast and easy it'd be if you didn't even have to mess with an ink pad?!
Another cool thing about the pre-inked stamper is that you can buy Two-Tone ink pads for it! They have two separate pads for you to ink - one pad is for the border color and the other is for the letters in the center of your monogram! Um - hello?! How cool is that?! I can't wait to order a couple of these. Can't you just see my monogram in pink and orange or some other fab color combo?! ;) You ink these the same way - with your own re-inkers and these are also two-sided! So one pad will allow you to have two separate two-color combos!
Does the JustRiste kit have only one of each letter in the Lg and Med sized alphas? (My first and middle name are the same so I need double medium sized letters.)
The Monogram stamper kit comes with a complete alphabet in large letters (for your last initial) and a double alphabet for the first and middle names. So, if you happen to have the same initial for your first and middle names, you're set! However, if you're just buying one of the accessory kits with the intent to just use the wooden block, be sure to check the website, as I don't know how many alphas come in each and every set.
I read an article saying it was hard to clean. Have you found that?
What I've found is that when using a tiny alphabet to spell out a border, you don't really want to rub this on a scrubber pad or you're likely to send those teeny letters in every which direction! For those tiny letters, I just use a wetwipe to clean them. You'll notice in my photos though, that it does take a bit of effort to get those little alphas clean. (obviously I need to put forth a little more effort!) However, when using regular borders and the large or medium alphas, I had no trouble cleaning these on my cleaning pad with some spray cleaner, as long as I was using the wooden blocks. I think for the self-inking stamper though, I would probably just use a cloth or wetwipe.
Did you get more than just the standard kit?
Yes, I've got the starter kit plus several additional add-on kits with various borders, alphas and wood blocks.
Which size stamper do you have? (the large size or the small size?)
All of the samples you've been seeing here on my blog use the large size monogram stamper. As you can see on some of the cards I've made, the large size just barely fits in the SU! scallop punch. It is too large to use with my SU! 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" circle punches, however looking at this JustRite blog post, it looks like the small monogram stamper is perfectly sized to use with those punches. I would imagine that some of the Nestabilities circles/scallops would work well with the large monogram stamper since they have so many sizes to work with, however I don't have any Nesties yet, so I can't tell you that for sure.
That's all I have for you at the moment. :) Here's a link to the JustRite website home page so you can check 'em out for yourself. And certainly, if you have any other questions for me, just leave them in comments and I'll do my best to answer them!! And let me know too, if this type of Q&A thing with photos is helpful to you, or if it's just overkill! Hee!
