Hi-ya! Happy Monday to you! I've got a few more 'moddy' cards to share with you today, all using Mod Squad, however some of today's cards may surprise you just a bit! I have had a lot of fun lately, as I've made little discoveries about the images in the Mod Squad stamp set. Take this card for instance! Did you know that if you take the 'horizontal solid frame image' and turn it vertically, you can make a flower out of it?!! Haha!! And how about that decorative circle image that you've seen me use as a background stamp this week? Makes for some pretty mod leaves, right?! I used my old olive marker from Stampin' Up! to draw two lines for flower stems and then built the flowers around them.
Also, notice the sentiment as I stamped it on the card. The space that I had available on the card for a sentiment, after I got my flowers situated, really needed a sentiment that wasn't very wide so rather than use the 'Just Because...' as it was designed, I decided to stamp it on two lines. To do that, I inked up 'Because...' first, by placing it on the block and only getting that one word inky. Being able to see thru the acrylic block makes this a snap! I wanted to stamp the bottom word first so I could get the placement just right. Adding the 'Just' above the 'Because...' is much easier than trying to do it the other way around.
After I stamped the word 'Because...', I cleaned my stamp with a wet-wipe and tap-tap-tapped the stamp on some scratch paper. This is important to make sure that all of the ink and wet-wipe residue is off the stamp. You don't want that to show up, when you go to stamp the next word. Then I inked up 'Just' and stamped it right above the 'Because...'! This is a great way to get a little more mileage out of your sentiments.
Don't these fun and funky flowers just make you smile? :)
Next up, I wanted to show you the 'single flower' image. I decided to stamp a whole row of those little flowers and their coordinating stems. The thing I'd like to point out is that you can stamp the flower upright with the little bumps sticking up out the top of the flower, OOOOOR you can flip the flower upside down for a different look to your little flower! Fun, huh?
I added glitter to the little blank squares on each of the flowers, with a two-way glue pen.
The funny thing is, after flipping the flowers upside down, I realized you could easily make these into little retro balloons! Heck, if you leave them right side up, they could even be hot water bottles.....although I haven't tried that one yet! Hahaha!
So I decided to try out my theory about the balloons by pairing the little balloon (flower) image with the balloon strings image from Everyday Button Bits (that's also being released on the 15th) and it totally worked! What do you think of those FABBY retro looking balloons?!
For a fun decorative border along the bottom of the card, I adhered a selection of berry sorbet and summer sunrise vintage buttons with glue dots. Talk about a great way to use up some of those buttons we all love to 'collect'! *wink!*
I hope you've enjoyed today's Mod Squad post. There's just one more day left of the Papertrey Countdown, so I'll be back tomorrow with a few more projects featuring Mod Squad! Do you have a favorite card from today's post? Do you have some ideas of your own, of how you might use some of Mod Squad's images for ways other than they were originally intended? Are you now trying to figure out how to make a get well card of your own, using a moddy hot water bottle?! LOL!
Be sure and pop over to Nichole's blog for another inspiration-filled post! And you won't want to miss out on Mish Wooderson's post today as well....she's featuring another of this month's new releases. Plus, Lisa Johnson & Lauren Meader will also have more goodies to share!
