Hey there, wild thing....
Back for the final day of the Papertrey Countdown! All of the new products you've been getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase beginning tomorrow, June 15, at Papertrey Ink!
Today, I have the pleasure of not only showcasing my newest stamp set, It's a Jungle Out There, but I also get to help introduce you to a new set designed by Nichole Heady called Mehndi Medallion. The two sets work so well together that these first two cards showcase both sets at the same time!
I created a frame from the large medallion image in Mehndi Medallion by first using the circle die from the limitless layers: 2 1/2" die collection to die cut some vintage cream card stock. Next, I die cut a smaller circle from inside the larger circle using the limitless layers: 1 3/4" circle die. Then I stamped the medallion in orange zest ink on the circle frame I'd created. I repeated the same process with a scalloped die, also from the limitless layers: 2 1/2" circle dies, creating a scalloped frame, and then used the 1 3/4" circle die one last time, to die cut a circle from the front of the card base, effectively creating a window on the card front, once all of the layers were stacked up.
I then used the It's a Jungle Out There die to die cut a cheetah from kraft card stock and then stamped it with the coordinating cheetah images from It's a Jungle Out There using orange zest and true black inks. The cheetah was adhered inside the card using foam adhesive, so that he shows thru the window when the card is closed.
A strip of kraft card stock was cut and adhered just under the frame, creating a bit of an award ribbon look. The "Hey there" and "wild thing" sentiments are both from It's a Jungle Out There.....I love that they're separate sentiments, giving you lots more options when building your own perfect sentiments!
So next up is a simple little number in a very earthy color combo that would be so cute to send to a friend, just because. The "Hey there" sentiment is the same one used on the card above, this time used by itself.
I used fresh snow ink to stamp large and small medallions from Mehndi Medallion on the kraft card base. The It's a Jungle Out There die and coordinating giraffe images were used to create the cuddly giraffe here. To achieve his pretty brown coloring, I inked up the solid giraffe image using dark chocolate ink, stamped it off lightly on scratch paper once and then stamped it on the giraffe die cut. Then, I inked up the spots in dark chocolate ink and stamped them over the top of the solid image. I love the two-tone brown look on this cuddly guy.
A dark chocolate twill bow was tied around the card front and a threaded wood button (no longer available) finished things off.
Next up is a card that I had SO much fun with! It's colors were completely inspired by the photos (including the one above) from Leslie Shewring's latest post highlighting purples and yellows. I love her photos and couldn't wait to use them as inspiration for a project. (Thanks so much, Leslie! xo)
Now, you're probably going to laugh at me when I tell you this, but I counted up 23 bottles of Glimmer Mist in various colors that have all been sent to me over the last year or so, none of which, have I ever used! Until today, that is! I've been wanting to play with them a bit so I busted out a purple one to add some "ink splats" to this card. I love, love the look and felt so crazy and carefree dripping drops of Glimmer Mist onto my card! These splotches of purple color don't follow any rules....they don't go exactly where you think they will......they go where they want to! And I have to say that it was so fun to see where they'd land!
I started out with a 6" x 3" card and stamped the large medallion from Mehndi Medallion in summer sunrise ink on the card front. Next, I grabbed a bottle of purple pansy Glimmer Mist and instead of spritzing it onto the card, I unscrewed the top and pulled the spritzer out, flicking drops of ink onto the card front. This achieved larger, more concentrated pops of the purple, rather than a fine mist over the card. I still wanted that medallion to really have center stage so these purple droplets worked perfectly.
A couple strips of my new Damask Designs patterned papers were added to the card front as well as a simple strip of plum pudding topnotch twill ribbon. The adorable little butterfly was die cut with the Happy Trails die and stamped with the coordinating butterfly image from the Happy Trails stamp set using plum pudding ink. The pretty little purple gem is from Hero Arts.
Lastly, I added the "just a note" sentiment from Happy Trails to finish things off. Making this card was really, really fun. :)
Here's another card for you that involved a new technique for me. I followed Heather's instructions in her latest Make It Monday video for the cracked glass technique. The medallion image so reminded me of a lot of the gorgeous, massive stained glass windows we saw in cathedrals all over Paris and London a couple of weeks ago, so I wanted to create my own stained glass look on this card.
I started out by using the limitless layers: 2 1/2" circle die to die cut a bit of vintage cream card stock. Then I stamped the medallion using Palette noir ink and colored the image in with RV17, R29, BG13 and BG11 Copic markers.
Then, I inked the piece up with versamark ink and sprinkled on glassy glaze embossing powder and heat set it. I repeated those steps about 4 times....cover the piece in versamark ink, sprinkle on powder, heat set, repeat. This shiny "stained glass window" looking piece is what I was left with. Next came the fun part....cracking the "glass"!
I simply bent the paper over and over, thus creating cracks in the glassy glaze. The last step was to rub some tea dye ink over the entire piece, working it into the cracks, to give it more of a vintage look. The entire piece was layered a vintage cream doily that was created with the parisian lace doily die.
The "You're in my prayers" sentiment is from the Beautiful Blessings stamp set.
Lastly for today, one more Mehndi Medallion card. I love the neutral colors on this one.....so soothing, don't you think?
I started out with the back layer.....kraft card stock that was die cut with a Delightful Doilies die and stamped with a doily image from my Delightful Doilies stamp set. Next up is a dark chocolate layer, die cut with a limitless layers: 2 1/2" scalloped circle die. Next comes another kraft layer, this one die cut with a Doily Details die followed by the vintage cream layer that was cut with the limitless layers: 2 1/2" circle die which was stamped with the large medallion image in dark chocolate ink. The final kraft layer was punched out with a 1" circle punch and stamped with a small medallion image from Mehndi Medallion, also using dark chocolate ink. The pretty brad that tops everything off is from Crate Paper's Portrait Collection.
The sentiment on the kraft strip at the bottom of the card is another from the Happy Trails stamp set and it is accented with a sweet little dark chocolate button.
Thank you so much for coming by today!! Now head over to Nichole Heady's blog because she's also showcasing It's a Jungle Out There and Mehndi Medallion and I know you won't want to miss it! Heather Nichols, Maile Belles and Melissa Bickford will also have one last day of peeks at their newest sets for you, too!
Have a wonderful day, Dearies....
