OH. MY. GOSH!!! We're back from the Barry Manilow concert and it was fab-u-lous!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how much fun we had!!! My parents went and so did my sister/BIL although we weren't all able to sit together. We all had a BLAST!
Barry's voice is smooooooothe like butta! And it hasn't changed!!! He seriously still sounds like he did almost 35 years ago! They played a video of him singing Mandy on 'the Midnight Special' in 1975 and then the band joined in and played along with the video and then he joined in and sang along with the video and I'm tellin' ya, he still sounds the same! It's amazing. I was soooo impressed. I waved my Barry Manilow glow stick with the best of 'em! I sang my heart out on 'Mandy' and 'I Write the Songs' and when he sang 'Can't Smile Without You', I got tears in my eyes!!! (Go ahead and laugh!) I couldn't help it.....seeing Barry Manilow in person is not something I ever really thought about doing before. It was a total last minute thing that we ended up getting to go anyway. But when he sang my all time favorite, 'Can't Smile Without You', I immediately thought of all those happy childhood moments listening to Barry records with my sister and Mom.....Mom sitting in her rocking chair and Diann and I laying on the floor on our olive green carpet (you remember.....the kind that was flat and matted down and looked like it had a cloud pattern in it!!). We'd lay on the floor looking up at the ceiling (imagining what it'd be like if we could walk on the ceiling! LOL!!!!!) (What? I was like 8 years old! Hahaha!)......and Barry would be playing on the record player. I love that memory.
I'm so glad that my parents were there, and even though my sister Diann didn't get to be there too, my 'littler' sister Grace was and it just made me happy. What a great night. Barry was such a fabulous showman and his voice just makes me all gooey. That was the best $35 we've spent in a long time!
(Yes, can you believe we got TWO tickets for a total of $35, AFTER all the service fees!! SCORE!)
If Barry comes to your town, I would HIGHLY recommend going to see him. Really! Oh, and I'm happy to report that Bart found the much anticipated 'brisket dog' at Concessions.......$7 worth of hot dog happiness! It was a 1/2 pound hot dog (seriously, the biggest hot dog I've ever seen and I'm not exaggerating) topped with brisket, BBQ sauce and onion rings!!! $7 well spent!
This has been a total marathon of a day, including a short road trip, packing & sorting thru 115 years (or so) of Bart's family history, a 50th birthday party AND a Barry Manilow concert!!! WHEW!
I will try to get a card made and posted for you tomorrow after church but just in case I don't, you can assume I'm napping! LOL!!
Sweet Dreams and remember......"her name was Lola, she was a showgirl!!!" :)
