I am SO excited to share today's project with you! Nichole asked the Papertrey design team to create a holiday/Christmas gift item and gift packaging and I have to say this was so fun to do! This is a beautiful gift that you can make that is affordable and so fun too! It's a holiday jar Christmas decoration that looks great on a table or bookshelf and can even be used as a small centerpiece.
To get started, I used a regular old Mason jar. These can be found in the canning section of any store that sells canning supplies. I got my jars at Wal-mart. I had my sweet husband cut some short sprigs off our huge blue spruce tree in the back yard. You could use any sort of pine-needle type branches that you can find. I put some sprigs in the bottom of the jar, keeping them standing upright. (Be careful -- the needles are sharp!!) Then I filled the jar with water about 3/4 of the way up. Next, pour in some fresh cranberries. These can usually be found in bags in the produce section at the grocery store. They will float on the water creating such a beautiful wintery scene in the jar. You might need to add a bit more water or berries, to make sure the jar is filled to the top. You want to ensure that plenty of those cheery red berries are visible from the outside of the jar.
For the topper, I punched a circle out of Papertrey's new Gold Shimmer card stock to create a base for my berries and bows. I adhered the card stock to the flat part of the lid using foam dimensionals, making sure that the screw part of the lid could still turn without interference from the topper. Next up, I adhered a floral pick (berries) and my ribbon bows to the card stock with glue dots. For the bows, I used the new Gold Tinsel Weave ribbon and Gold Sheer Metallic Ribbon.
Tie a ribbon (More Gold Sheer Metallic Ribbon) around the jar's neck, add a button and gemstone and this Christmas gift is ready to go!
As for the gift tag, I used Papertrey's new Rustic Snowflakes set by my sweet friend Heather Nichols! I stamped the snowflakes in versamark ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. I LOVE how the clear embossing looks both on kraft - such a neat effect, and on the pure poppy! I just cut out the snowflake with my handy dandy little paper snips and popped it off the tag with more foam dimensionals! I added some red bling for good measure and voila! The ribbon I used to tie the tag to the bag is Papertrey's new Gold Sheer Metallic Edge ribbon.....so cute!
I have to say that I love the effect of all the red on red. The clear embossing that comes out shiny red looks so great in real life with the little red gemstones!
I hope that this project has gotten you in the mood to create some fun hand-made items for your loved ones this year. I know it's got me brain-storming already....the holiday season will be here before we know it!!
Be sure to pop over to Nichole's blog to check out what the other girls on the Design Team came up with!!
Have a great day, Friends!!!
