Hi-ya Crew!! Welcome to Day 2 of Scattered Showers sneak-peeks! And thank you SO much for all of the sweet comments you left for me both here and over at Nichole's blog! You're all such dears and I'm so thrilled to hear that so many of you are loving Scattered Showers already! I so enjoyed reading your comments!! Thank you, thank you. So let's get on with some more fun sneakie-peeks, shall we??
This first card is a quickie to make but by using Papertrey's Friends 'Til the End patterned paper, it sure packs a powerful punch, doesn't it?? I adhered 3 pieces of the patterned papers together with Mono-Adhesive and then stitched near the seams with my sewing machine. Next up, I adhered the whole panel to the card front. Added an umbrella and sentiment and voila!
One thing I get asked about quite a bit is how I cut out images such as this little umbrella. I have two tips for you. #1) Go slow! LOL! You just have to have some patience with it (and practice) and you'll be a cutting pro in no time! And #2) move the PAPER thru the scissors rather than moving the SCISSORS around the paper. Confused?? ;) Let's say you're right handed like me. I cut with my right, so I hold the paper in my left hand. As I'm cutting, I apply even cutting pressure with my 'scissor hand' while moving the paper thru the scissors with my left. If you glide the paper thru the scissors with your 'paper hand' rather than cut-cut-cutting your way around the image, you'll end up with a much smoother cut and you'll be able to get around all of those tiny details easier. Also, you'll want to use some small paper snips. If you try to use long scissors, you'll have a reeeeeally hard time cutting out small images like these umbrellas. I have the paper snips from Stampin' Up! and they've worked GREAT for me.
One other thing to note regarding this card.....it's a long skinny card - it's finished size is 6 1/2" x 3 1/2". I cut my white card stock to 6 1/2" x 7" and then scored the 7" side at 3 1/2". Now, I know what some of you are thinking. You're thinking, "But how will I put this card in an envelope???" Am I right? :) If you need to put this card in an envie, you can always use a letter sized or other over-sized envelope HOWEVER, if you're not mailing the card, I would suggest NOT putting it in an envie! (gasp!) Hee. The thing is, sometimes it's ok to leave the card out of the envelope. Like for instance, if you're hand delivering this card and you're giving it with a little gift bag of some sort, just tuck the card into the tissue paper and use the cuteness of the card front to coordinate with whatever gift bag you're using! OR, you can even punch a hole in the back flap of the card up in one of the top corners and then tie the card to the handle of the gift bag with some fun ribbon. Just think.....you could even buy inexpensive kraft gift bags and tie your card to the front. No more needing to purchase expensive gift bags at $4 each when you can dress up a basic bag with supplies that you already have on hand!
Ooooh, so much fun happenin' on this card. Let's start with the card base. See that fun stripey pattern?? I stamped that using various widths of the line stamps from the Faux Ribbon stamp set in Vintage Cream ink! Cool, huh?? (That ink has such fabulous coverage and it dries pretty quick too.)
This card also gives you a peek at a new umbrella image that you haven't seen yet as well as a new sentiment too! I cut out the tag using my Cricut Expression and the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge. Then I just started layering things....I stamped the umbrella, added a strip of scalloped kraft card stock, a string of buttons and I attached the sentiment with some foam dimensionals.
To thread the buttons, I just used one strip of linen thread and threaded all the buttons without cutting the thread on each button. They're all attached to each other and then I used mini glue dots to adhere each button exactly where I wanted them.
Lastly for tonight, a quick and easy little number just to show you that it doesn't take a lot of fuss to make a cute and thoughtful card for a friend or loved one. ;)
What do you think of that sentiment?? I just LOVE this one! It makes me smile! Hopefully it will do the same for it's recipients!
I'm not sure if you can see it in the photo or not, but I put a little dot of glue in the center of each flower and added some Prism glitter. Such a fun little touch that adds lots of sparkle in real life.
I'm so glad you stopped by today for more sneakie peeks! Be sure to scroll down to the next post (I have two today) to see some gift ideas using Heather's new All Star Team sets plus you'll want to see what Nichole and all of the other design team members have to created to share with you too!
