Hi there!! We're back for Day 3 of Scattered Showers countdown projects and I'm super excited about all of the goodies I have to show you over the next few days. Lots of cards and other fun treats to share!
Have you ever had a friend that was just a little down? Someone that maybe needed a bit of cheering up? Next time this is the case with one of your friends, why not giving her a sweet little treat that is sure to brighten her day and lift her spirits?! While this rule may not apply to absolutely everyone, let's face it.....for a lot of us, a bit of chocolate can brighten our day and chase those gloomies away. Chocolate just makes us feel better and pairing it with a fun little 'cheer up' sentiment and sweet umbrella packaging makes for the cutest little treat to tell someone that you're thinking about them and that you care.
For today's project, I decided to show you how to create a custom wrap for one of these Ghirardelli candy bars. Now, when it comes to a friend in need, now is not the time to skimp on the chocolate! LOL! Get some chocolate that you know is good -- I happen to love dark chocolate and when paired with gooey caramel and the Ghirardelli name, you can't go wrong! ;) These only run about $2 a bar so this is still a super inexpensive gift, but it's sure to let your friend know she's loved and cared for. Plus, these particular candy bars are great because they come in a 'box' which makes it so easy to create the wrap for it. They do come in a variety of different flavors as well, if dark chocolate and caramel aren't really your thing. (I bought this one at Target.)
Here's a picture of everything we'll need to make this simple little project. White card stock cut to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (just like a standard card size), two strips of red card stock measuring 1" x 8 1/2", a scallop edge punch, clear gemstones, brown & red inks, sheer white polka dot ribbon, a Ghirardelli chocolate bar (in box) & the Scattered Showers stamp set.
First up, you'll want to use your scallop edge punch to scallop one edge on each of the two red strips of card stock and set them aside.
Next you'll want to go ahead and stamp your umbrella background pattern. (You didn't know Scattered Showers could also make a fun background, did you??) :) One thing to note here.....I forgot to stamp my polka dots at this point and I added them in later, but if you want to add in some polka dots on your wrap, you'll want to go ahead and do that now. Then using some adhesive, glue the two scallop strips to the back side of the white card stock, so that just a bit of the scallop edge is peeking out from behind.
Now flip the whole wrap over and score at 2 1/2", 2 15/16", 5 7/8" & 6 5/16". Go ahead and fold along the score lines.
Now, put one strip of red line tape along the edge of one of the flaps.
Wrap one side of the wrap around the candy bar and while holding it in place, peel off the red backing on the tape and wrap the adhesive end tightly around the box, pressing the adhesive into place. This will ensure that you get a snug fit around the box.
All that's left to do is to decorate your packaging. I added some gemstones to the umbrellas, like I did on my card. I also tied a bow using two ribbons, added one of Papertrey's new Dark Chocolate buttons (!) using some hemp twine and embossed my sentiment with white embossing powder onto a fun little red tag.
Don't you love how these two sentiments work together?? I love how the card says, "When it rains, it pours" and the candy bar says, "Cheer up, Buttercup". You could easily use the "Cheer up, Buttercup" sentiment to finish off the inside of the card since they work so well together.
Next up, is a fun little card that just goes to show that umbrellas are for guys too! I kept this one super masculine and even stamped an umbrella image directly onto a piece of cork, cut it out and adhered it to the front of my card.
For some other masculine touches, I used my Heidi Swapp edge distressor to rough up the edges of my kraft card stock, I kept my background pattern super simple (and non-frilly!) by using the dotted lines image from the Journaling Lines stamp set, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of card stock that I punched out using my key tag punch from Stampin' Up! -- it looks like a dog tag, and I also wrapped some hemp twine around my card several times and tied it in a simple knot.
For those of you that may want to hunt down some cork of your own, this is what the packaging looks like. This package comes with 6 pieces of cork (8 1/2" x 11") and was just a few dollars at Michael's, in the section with the cork bulletin boards and such.
As you can see in this photo, the cork is SUPER thin and therefore, really, really easy to cut with paper snips. (It's also super fun to stamp on!)
And lastly for tonight, another paper-pieced card for you. A cute umbrella set just has to have a "Congratulations" sentiment and as you can see, it's not hard at all to whip up some fabby little cards that would be appropriate for a baby OR bridal shower!
I used my two-way glue pen to add a strip of glue to the space between the two lines at the bottom of the umbrella and sprinkled on some Prism glitter! Super easy, but this card really sparkles in real life and it was just the touch this card needed to look like a little boutique-y card!
I hope that you've gained a bit of inspiration from these projects today! I'm so glad you've spent some time with me and I hope you'll pop back in tomorrow. I'll be back with some more fun Scattered Showers cards and other projects to share with you!! Can't wait!
Don't forget to check in with Nichole to see what she's giving you a peek at next! Plus, Heather Nichols and Lisa Johnson will be showing you more goodies they've made using their new stamp sets.
See you tomorrow, Girlies! Have a FABULOUS Easter!
