Hey there!! Welcome back! It's day 2 of the Countdown and I've got more GROOVY cards to share with you using my newest stamp set, Mod Squad. As you can see in the photo above, I created a totally fun background pattern using a bit of heat embossing and some glitter. Notice how the image looks similar but different than decorative circle stamps I showed you yesterday? The difference is that this pattern is smaller and several of the images are already layered together in one stamp so you can easily create your own mini background pattern (see stamp in photo below).
A really cool thing I discovered when creating this card is that if you take a piece of Summer Sunrise card stock and heat emboss it using clear embossing powder, the stamped portion comes out looking VERY ORANGE! I just LOVE that, especially on this card!! I simply stamped the background image repeatedly in rows until the entire summer sunrise panel was covered, stopping every few rows to go ahead and add the Filigree detail embossing powder and set it with my heat tool.
After I got the embossing done, I decided that I wanted to soften the color around the edges just a bit so I dragged my Fresh Snow ink pad around the edges of the card stock. Then, I wiped off most of the ink (so that it wouldn't stay wet and gooey on the embossed parts of the paper), leaving behind a soft white finish to my edges.
Next, I decided to break open my new package of chunky glitters from Doodlebug Designs! I took my Two-Way Glue Pen (from Stampin' Up!) and filled in the open circles on every other row with glue. Then I sprinkled on the orange glitter and shook off the excess. As you can see in the close-up photo below, the end result is a very eye-catching background pattern! Definitely 'totally mod!'.....wouldn't you say?? :)
The circle 'frame' image is another that you're getting a first glimpse of today! It has three 'moddy' stars set off to one side, allowing you to stamp a small sentiment directly inside the circle next to the stars, or on another piece of card stock and
offset, as I did on this card. I heat embossed the frame image on more summer sunrise card stock and layered it inside a scalloped circle border. The addition of the jumbo scallop strips on either side of the summer sunrise panel really finished off this super fun card!
Next up is another cheery little card that features the same frame image. You can see that on this one, I stamped the little 'love ya' sentiment right inside the frame and added a few Hero Arts gemstones. I also used a few other new stamps from Mod Squad on this card. I decided to jazz up the Bitty Box Basics patterned paper just a bit by stamping a single mod-style star in a random pattern. It just added a bit more dimension to the paper.
As for the focal image, what do you think of those fun flowers??? The 3 flowers are all one stamp, and the 3 stems are another stamp. You can use those 3 flowers as I have here, or you can use them to create yet another background pattern by stamping them (with or without the stems!) in a random pattern all over your paper! Talk about versatile little flowers, huh?? In fact, quite a few of the images in Mod Squad can be stamped as they were intended or can be used for other purposes. Some of the background images could be made into retro flowers and some of the flowers and stars could be made into background images! That's what I call 'more bang for your buck'!
This last card also gives you a first hand look at a few other images! This one has another 'frame' image that I've added a 'totally mod!' sentiment strip to again. But notice that on this frame, I also stamped that little 'background star' from the previous card, right in the little open box on the frame! Adding a bit of bling to the star was the finishing touch to the sentiment focal point!
And how about that background pattern??? This stamp is actually made up of just two of the boxes -- one vertical and one horizontal. I just stamped them, one on top of the other, to create a 'chain link' looking background pattern! Groovy, right?? :)
So, now that you've gotten another look at Mod Squad, what do you think? Are you envisioning different colors and patterns and retro projects that you could create yourself?? Are you starting to see how much fun you could have with Mod Squad? :) I'd love to hear your thoughts!
