Back again with Day 3 of the Papertrey Countdown and I'm so excited to share a few more Mod Squad projects with you today so let's get started!!
I don't know if any of you are like me, but if you are, you've probably got a few random chipboard pieces around your crafty space that perhaps you haven't been able to bring yourself to use just yet. Dare I say, you might even be hoarding them??? :) .....just waiting for 'the perfect' project to use them on, except that no project ever seems 'worthy enough' to use those precious bits on?? Trust me, I've so been there. Take this little chipboard birdie mini-album from Maya Road in the photo above. That bad boy has been in my drawer for simply ages and while I still haven't 'technically' used it, I've got a fun project for you today that might just make you feel a little better about hanging on to such treasures. You don't even have to use 'em up just yet, but we'll put them to use just the same!
I've been showing you some of the fab, retro background patterns you can create with Mod Squad this week. Soooo.......check out what you get when you pair a sweet chipboard shape with a groovy piece of stamped card stock!
You can see in the photo above, that I just stamped enough of the background image to make sure I had enough room for the whole chipboard piece to fit.
Next up, you'll want to flip your stamped card stock over and lay the bird shape on the back side of the card stock.
Now, trace around the bird and then, using paper snips, trim around your traced line.
I know this isn't a new concept and it's certainly not earth shattering but....Check it out!!! Is that a FUN birdie, or what?!! The overall card is super simple, but because of the detailed pattern on the bird, it makes for a striking finished card! Wouldn't you say?
I added a simple little pearl from Hero Arts for the bird's eye to finish him off. Simple and sweet!
The beauty of this particular idea is that you can adapt the idea to create a huge array of cards by using various chipboard shapes, various color combinations and various background patterns. The possibilities really are endless and so, I thought that today, I'd show you three different cards all using the same chipboard bird as a pattern, all using images from Mod Squad to create patterns on the birds and all 3 resulting in veeeery different looks!
On this card, I went for a more vintage feel by using a retro little star image to stamp my pattern. I added little pink gemstones to the centers of each star. Then, with the addition of a scalloped, lacy border, some machine stitching and some vintage touch tea dye ink rubbed around the edges of my card stock, I ended up with a delicate, feminine card that is a completely different look than the fun, retro look of the first card.
This sentiment is another from Mod Squad....just perfect for sending a sweet little note to a friend.
How's this for yet another completely different look?!! These colors are just plain 'juicy' and I loved how tying a bow around the bird's neck changed up the look of this card even more! This fun little two-rectangle image is the same one that I used yesterday to create the 'chain link' look. You can stamp the image overlapping it to get that chain look or you can stamp the image next to itself in rows like I did on this birdie.
I also used another of the sentiments from Mod Squad on this card. Can you ever have too many birthday sentiments?? Especially ones with such a fun and unique font as this one? :)
Lastly for today, I have a card to show you that uses my favorite flower image from Mod Squad! The 4 flowers are all one stamp, so I stamped them and cut them out, then added them to the front of my card with foam adhesive. The 4 stems are all together on another stamp, which allowed me to easily stamp them in green, while stamping my flower heads in purple.
I also love how soft and subtle this small background pattern turned out when stamped in plum pudding ink on plum pudding card stock. It's a very classic look, almost like a bit of vintage wallpaper, don't you think?
I couldn't resist adding some gemstones (from Hero Arts) to the little boxes on the flowers. I love the look of setting the gemstones slightly off to the side of the little box rather than right in the center of those boxes. That way, a little of the 'white space' still shows around the gemstones.
Well, that's all I've got to share with you today! I hope you've been inspired to bust out some of that chipboard and use it as a pattern with your papers and background stamps! Do you have some chipboard you can dig out and use? I also hope that you're getting lots of ideas of things that you could do with Mod Squad yourself. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on today's post! Are you gettin' in the Mod Squad groove yet?? ;)
I'll be back tomorrow with more fun projects using Mod Squad! You'll also want to be sure and visit Nichole's blog today to see her latest creations featuring another of the new releases this month!
