Hello! Welcome to day 3 of the Papertrey Countdown! I've got a couple more fun projects to share with you, as well as a short tutorial on how to create this big felt flower! Both of today's cards showcase the two Volume 9 patterned papers from the Color Couture September Download (available on the 15th at Papertrey Ink for $5). These two papers were designed to coordinate with the Volume 9 Color Couture Embellies but as you'll see with today's cards, you can use the papers with the embellies or without.
How about we get right to how to make your own fallish felt flower!
I used the smallest leaf die in the Leaf Prints Die collection to create the flower from terracotta tile felt. (The terracotta tile felt will also be available at Papertrey on the 15th) For this flower, I die cut 9 felt leaves.
Then, I folded the bottom end of each leaf in half and stitched a small diagonal line with my sewing machine across the bottom portion of each leaf. The end result is that the bottom portion of the leaf is pinched closed, turning it into a flower petal.
Next, I hand stitched the petals together with a needle and a bit of chocolate baker's twine. Here are the first 6 petals threaded onto the baker's twine.
When you get all of the petals threaded onto the twine, simply tie the two ends of the twine together, cinching the petals into a circle. Now, you can embellish the flower however you'd like. In this case, I chose to finish my flower off by hand stitching a great big Fine Linen button to the center with a bit more chocolate baker's twine.
To the terracotta tile card base, I added two strips of the Vol. 9 patterned papers from the Color Couture September Download. Next, I used Becky Oehlers' new Framed stamp set to stamp the dark chocolate frame to a bit of kraft card stock. Then, I used the words "Happy" and "Fall" from the new Wreath For All Seasons set, to create my own custom sentiment, stamping the "Happy" in the handy space in the frame. To secure the flower to the card stock, I simply stitched it by hand and tied off the stitch on the back of the kraft card stock and then adhered the whole panel to the card front with a bit of foam adhesive.
I have one more card to show you today that is so simple, but I'm just in love with how it turned out. I started off with a rustic cream card stock base that measures 4.25" square. Next, I added a piece of patterned paper from the Color Couture September Download.......oh, how I love this paper as a sweet little background for this card! Along the bottom of the card, I added a strip of trim from the Vol. 9 Color Couture Embellies collection. Those trim strips are SO easy to use.....just cut 'em out and add them to your projects!
The "Happy Fall" tag and flower are more embellies are more from the Vol. 9 collection that I cut out and adhered to the card, along with a bit of vintage book print that I die cut using another Leaf Prints die. I added a sweet little harvest gold button to the center of the flower, the perfect little finishing touch!
That's all from me for today, but be sure to visit Nichole Heady, Lisa Johnson and Debbie Olson who are all showcasing new sets today! Heather Nichols, Alli Miles, Becky Oehlers and Beth Silaika will all be showing you more peeks at their newest sets too.
I'll be back here tomorrow, same time, same place....with lots more sneak peeks for you! Hope to see you again soon!
