Hi, Friends!! It's the last day of the December Countdown at Papertrey Ink and it's another Group Post day for the entire Design Team. (All of the new products you'll be seeing today will be available for purchase beginning Dec. 15 at Papertrey Ink.)
The design team is focusing on the new 2010 Love Tags stamp set which is so much fun! I designed two of the tags in this set -- one of which, I've chosen to work with today. You can see it above -- the little "Smooches" tag. :)
Nichole challenged the team to create a Valentine tag for a little treat of some sort, as well as a card that could be given year-round. For my Valentine tag, I decided to create a fun little tin wrap that easily slides on and off of one of Papertrey's 8 oz. square clear top tins. It started with a bit of my new Sweet Symphony patterned paper. Wanna see what the entire collection looks like?? Here you go.....
Fun, no?
So back to the tin.....I cut a strip of the Sweet Symphony patterned paper and wrapped it down around the sides of the tin. Next, I cut a strip of pure poppy saddle stitch ribbon and wrapped it around the tin as well, allowing it to overlap about an inch or so in the back. I used some scor-tape on the ribbon to adhere the ribbon to itself -- just pull tight and stick!
This way, the ribbon helps to hold the patterned paper in place, but nothing is actually stuck to the tin, therefore allowing you to slide the wrapper off to get to the goodies inside, and then the recipient can easily slide the wrapper back on to use it again if they'd like.
As for the top of the topper (that's fun to say) :) I die cut some hawaiian shores card stock with the fillable frames #4 die and some pure poppy card stock with a limitless layers die. I stamped the "Smooches" tag on rustic cream card stock with hawaiian shores ink, punched it out and adhered it to the red layer. Lastly, I stamped the "Smooches" tag again using pure poppy ink, cut the heart from the center of the tag and adhered it directly over the heart on the hawaiian shores tag with foam adhesive. I'm telling you, this little tin wrap is easy, easy, easy to create and would be so simple to mass produce for little Valentine treats for friends, family, co-workers....whoever!
Now, for a card that could be given year-round using the same "Smooches" tag.....
I created a "Sending You Smooches" card by pairing the "Sending You" sentiment from Big & Bold Wishes with the "Smooches" tag! So fun! I heat embossed the "Sending You" sentiment at the top of my berry sorbet card using clear embossing powder.
Now, let's talk about that sheet music paper, shall we? :) I stamped the Background Basics: Sheet Music pattern on rustic cream card stock using berry sorbet ink. Then, I pulled out the "Happy Birthday to You!" sentiment from Around & About Sentiments and stamped it in between the sheet music staffs! I love that it creates the look of "the birthday song"! The "Happy Birthday to You!" sentiment is actually repeated twice on that stamp -- it's a long, skinny sentiment stamp -- so I only had to stamp it twice on this card.
As for the "Smoochie" part of the card, I used the mat stack 2 die with pure poppy card stock and stamped it using one of the new images from Mat Stack 2 Collection in versamark ink. Then, I layered on a berry sorbet scalloped circle die cut with a limitless layers die. Lastly, I stamped the "Smooches" tag, once in pure poppy (which I punched out) and once in berry sorbet. I cut out the berry sorbet heart and adhered it over the pure poppy one.
While we're talking about 2010 Love Tags, I thought I'd show you a simple little set of Valentines I whipped up, by pairing 2010 Love Tags with my new Love Birds stamp set.
I stamped the circle of hearts from 2010 Love Tags on the little 3x3 cards and then stamped the "Happy Valentine's Day" sentiment from Love Birds on the bottom of the card, as well as the "chain" image at the top of the card in smokey shadow ink. Then, I die cut the small bird cage using the Love Birds die, stamped the cage in smokey shadow ink and the birds in whatever color matched the hearts and then adhered the little cage to the card front.
Inside each of the cards, I also stamped the "be mine" heart image from 2010 Love Tags in the upper left corner. These little Valentines could easily be made for your kids to give out at school or you could even use them as Valentines for your grown up friends. Punch a hole in the upper corner and tie them on to a little Valentine treat, and you've got adorable little Valentine gift tags!
Now, you may not have thought of this yet, but did you know that sheet music is perfect for use on baby cards??? It's true! After all, lullabies are a big part of a teeny babies life right?!
For this little number, I started out with a spring moss card base. Next, I layered on a bit of Happy Spots patterned paper.
The rustic cream card stock was stamped with Background Basics: Sheet Music in spring moss ink and then the "lullaby" sentiment from Night, Night Moon was stamped in dark chocolate ink in between the staffs.
I used the fillable frames #11 die and stamp to create the dark chocolate label and then stamped the pea pod from Baby Button Bits on vintage cream card stock in spring moss ink. I cut the pea pod out and added a few spring moss buttons, one of which I threaded with chocolate baker's twine.
I created my own sentiment which I stamped along the bottom of the card in dark chocolate ink. The "welcome" is from Night, Night Moon and the "little sweet pea" is from Baby Button Bits. A bow tied from spring moss grosgrain ribbon finished things off perfectly!
Lastly for today, I have a project for you, showing you a bit of one of the Vol. 10 patterned papers from the December Color Couture Download. This pink & orange dotty paper with a kraft-ish background is SO cute and fun to work with! I cut a little rectangle of the paper, added a strip of orange Dotty Biscotti paper along the bottom and then peeking out from the bottom of the dots is a bit of kraft card stock, die cut using the banner borders die.
TIP: Whenever you need to cut a border using the banner borders die, go ahead and cut out all 5 borders at once. Even though you may only need to use one of them on the card you're working on, you'll have all of those extra borders out and ready for use on future cards! Time savers are always good, in my book! Don't you think?
The same tip can also be applied when using the double-ended banners die, like I did here. I needed the longer banner on a project a few days ago but because I cut both the longer and shorter banners out at the same time, I had this little banner laying on my desk, just waiting to be used! I simply stamped it with the "Thanks for all you do." sentiment from Mat Stack 2 Collection and tucked it behind the flower.
As for the flower, it was die cut using the smallest die in the Bloom Builders #1 collection. I cut out two of the flowers from fine linen felt and stitched them together with a summer sunrise button.
Tip: For those of you who are always wondering what to do with those shank buttons (the ones with the hole sticking out from the back side of the button), they are absolutely perfect for use on flowers like these!! Just stitch it right thru the flower and tie it off on the back side!
All right, Dearies, I hope you've enjoyed your visit with me today! Thank you so much for stopping by! You'll want to be sure to visit the entire design team to see their 2010 Love Tags projects.
