Hey there, Peeps...
Finally getting back to blogging after a long weekend with my hottie hubs! He has games so often these days that when we get a whole day together with nothing we *have* to do, we totally take advantage of it!
We finally took down our Christmas tree/decorations on Sunday after we got home from church. I'm always so amazed that what takes the better part of two days to put up manages to come down in about 3 hours!
Anyway, after tackling that project on Sunday, we were ready to just have a little fun together on Monday. We started our day off by getting up and going to breakfast, which is something that we rarely do. We usually eat a simple breakfast at home, saving those calories up for a lunch or dinner out. But all bets were off yesterday.....we just decided to go for it and I'm so glad we did! Bart had read some great reviews about Eggtc. including the fact that it had recently been rated in the top 5 for breakfast places in Kansas City. Well, I would have to agree with that assessment. Not only was it an adorable little place with servers that in some cases wore cute, colorful and even ruffly aprons, but the food was great and the service was great too.
Let me take you on a little food tour here.....the above plate was mine....but in fact, we ordered two things that we both wanted so that we could both share. Love doing that! So anyway, back to my plate.....biscuits and chorizo gravy with breakfast potatoes and a side of crispy bacon. Yum.
Bart's plate started out like this.....country fried steak (what a treat....we never order food like that normally!) with scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes and sourdough toast. We would have passed on the mushrooms for breakfast, but otherwise, we'd also give this plate a resounding YUM.
And just in case you need to see those two plates together.....
They also had lots of other offerings on the menu like pancakes, omelettes, french toast, etc. Honestly, it all looked good!
Plus, they sat us right in the front window at a darling table with a view of the street and great natural light. Laverne, my trusty Nikon, appreciated that.
Mmm.....my view also included that hottie at my table. :)
After breakfast, we did some shopping, finished up a few birthday gifts we need to get taken care of, had a light lunch at Panera and eventually came home for a bit to rest. Then, we went back out for dinner and used a couple of gift cards we'd been given for a seafood restaurant. At dinner, we did the same routine -- ordered two dinners that we both wanted to try so that we could share them (the only way to go, I'm tellin' ya!) and then, since we still had a bit of $$ left on the gift cards, we splurged and ordered dessert! Again, this is something that we rarely do, mostly because we're always too stuffed to eat dessert right after a dinner out. But this time, we paced ourselves and planned on it at the start of the meal because when Bart saw "Chocolate Creme Brulee" on the menu, that was all she wrote. We had to try it. :)
You'll have to forgive this terrible, terrible photo but know that it's so terrible because a) I'm not a better photographer and b) one of the great things about Bonefish Grill is that it's sort of dark and romantic and the mood lighting is wonderful.....except for taking photos of your Chocolate Creme Brulee. Laverne was most troubled by this fact.
Anyway, aside from the terrible photo, I'd like for you to imagine regular creme brulee (which I'm normally NOT a fan of)......only now I'd like you to imagine it chocolate flavored and with a crispy, crunchy crust on top that you have to break thru with your spoon......and imagine it a little thicker and less weirdly-textured than regular creme brulee.....think chocolate pudding only thicker. Have you got all that in your mind? Now imagine that it tastes TWICE as good as you're imagining it. THAT'S how good this Chocolate Creme Brulee was. It was goooood. :)
The perfect finale to our fun day together, I'd say.
And now, since we're having such a nice little chat, I thought I'd share a few more random photos, starting with all the snow we got last week. Incidentally, we're gearing up for another snow -- possibly much like this last one -- to hit us sometime tomorrow. We'll see how that turns out.
As you can see, Riley rather enjoys a good romp in the snow.
The snow had such a pretty texture to it in the back yard, where it'd blown and drifted.
It was soooo sparkly and sugary and glittery and glisteny and, well, Laverne tried as hard as she could, but she just couldn't capture all of that sparkliness. Hopefully you get the idea though.
This, believe it or not, is our front walk which Bart had shoveled and was snowed on again.
One last thing before I go.....this one's for all you girly-girls out there. MAC has a new line of eye shadows out right now that I just love! They're "Mega Metal" shadows and I've totally got my eye on a couple other colors (Prance & Unflappable) but I couldn't resist these. They're (l-r): Noir Plum, Mating Call and Peek-at-You. They're more than double the size of their regular eye shadows, but they're just a few dollars more. If you're interested, you should probably hurry to your local MAC counter to look for them because they're already starting to sell out.
All righty, well I'm off to get some work done. Hope your weekend (including your Monday) was great and I hope your week is off to a great start.
Smooches!
