Hello there!
It's Thursday evening and it's been raining, snowing and sleeting here all. day. long. Our yard's turned into a giant sponge. Plus, I've come to realize that hearing little balls of sleet tapping at my window has a much less relaxing and cozy feel than rain pitter-pattering at the window. Ha. Regardless though, my hottie hubs is home with me now, we've a warm and cozy fire burning in the fireplace and it's Taco Night at the McVey Ranch. Wanna come over? :)
I do have a little card to share with you before dinner. I made this for a friend who's birthday is fast approaching. I started out by stamping Background Basics: Newsprint in smokey shadow ink on rustic cream card stock, and inked the edges of the card base a bit with vintage touch tea dye ink. I'm still loving using this basic "newsprint-looking" card base as a starting point for cards. I showed you a couple of cards like this during the February countdown. I love the character that the newsprint adds to the card.
Want to hear a little piece of design trivia about this set? The date in the headline stamp just happens to be Bartley's and my anniversary. One perk of being a stamp designer.....I needed a date, so I figured I might as well pick one that meant something to me. The 1895 is completely random though. :) AND....if you can read the super fine print in the "newspaper articles", you just might recognize a few of my family members' first names. Of course, the articles are completely fictional, but it was fun to work their names into the stories.....and even more fun to read the fictional articles to my family, since they were all written as though it's 1895! Haha. I guess all of that historical fiction I love to read finally paid off......writing those little stories set in the late 1800's was so fun.
Anyway, back to the card. I pulled out the Banner Builder stamp set and stamped the banner string in true black ink directly on my newsprint pattern. Then I die cut 4 banner flags with a Banner Builder Collection die, and then stamped them with 4 banners from Banner Builder using raspberry fizz and berry sorbet ink.
For the sentiment, I used the double-ended banner die and the coordinating banner image from Banner Builder, stamped in raspberry fizz ink. Next, I stamped the "wishing you a happy birthday" sentiment from Mat Stack 1 Collection. The raspberry fizz and berry sorbet card stock layers were die cut with the Limitless Layers: 1 3/4" circle dies. I stamped a pretty circle image from Simply Stationary on the berry sorbet layer, using raspberry fizz ink. I have to say that I L.O.V.E. the color combo on this card. I totally need to use this one again soon! What do you think.....could you see yourself trying this combo out?
I'll be back tomorrow with another card to show you......tomorrow's the Papertrey Blog Hop, you know! You've still got time to whip up a card for the hop. Click the link to get all the details on this month's challenge.....it's all about scallops. Something I happen to be a fan of. Ha. I'll show you my card tomorrow.
Have a great evening, Dearies. Time to fix some tacos before American Idol comes on!
Toodles,
