Hello again! It's time for another Group Post at Papertrey Ink! Today, each of the girls on the Design Team are focusing on a new series of boy-themed stamp sets, each with a different theme, each just $5 and all of them designed by a variety of stamp designers. The Boy Basics stamp set series really has something for just about every little boy on your list! Each of the girls on the DT will be showcasing a different stamp set today, so you'll want to be sure to get around and visit each of their blogs -- I'll link 'em all up at the end of this post.
I chose to work with Boy Basics: Out of This World, designed by Nichole Heady. I wanted to create a card for my two-year old nephew, Malachi, that I can send him in the mail. If you ask him what Buzz Lightyear says, he'll tell you in no uncertain terms that Buzz Lightyear says, "To infinity and beyond!" It was that sentiment from Boy Basics: Out of This World, that inspired this whole card for Chi.
Plus, good grief, the little rocket (the same one from Tiny Treats: Birthday, except now it's super-sized!) is so darn cute! I had so much fun making this sort of interactive card for my sweet little nephew! Let's get right to it....I've got a couple of fun little details to show you along the way....
To start off with, I cut a piece of rustic cream card stock and sponged some spring rain and smokey shadow ink onto the paper. You may have seen Betsy Veldman's Make It Monday video a few weeks back.....I basically used her same techniques, using a sponge I had on hand. I started with the spring rain ink (to create the lighter portion of the "sky") and once I had the coverage that I wanted, I added in the smokey shadow ink.
I know it's hard to see in the above photo, but I stamped one of the images from Boy Basics: Out of This World several times -- a small star -- with versamark ink and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. This provided the outline of each of the stars, and then I used a glue pen to fill in each star with glitter.
The stars are a little more visible in the above photo. The next step, was to stamp the "3 2 1 blast off" sentiment using pure poppy ink. I also stamped the "flames" image and colored it in with copic markers. (YR12, YR18, R05, R29)
Next, I used the new little rocket die that coordinates with the stamp set, to cut out a piece of rustic cream card stock. Darling, right?! I then used a standard sized hole punch, to punch out the "window" on the rocket.
Here's a fun little detail I couldn't resist adding!! I took the little monkey image from Tiny Treats: Birthday and stamped it with Palette Noir ink on clear card stock, cut around his little head and taped it to the back side of the rocket, to look as though the monkey is looking out the window. Haha.
Next, I colored the Rocket in with Copic markers (B41, BG72, R29 & R59). I went ahead and die cut one more rocket and adhered it to the back side of of the colored rocket so the back is nice and finished and the monkey won't come loose. :)
Now, for another fun little detail. Instead of mounting the rocket onto the card front with foam adhesive, I chose to use velcro so that Malachi can have a little pretend fun with the rocket! He can have his own little "3 2 1 blast off" countdown, pull the rocket off the card and "fly" it around the room, and then put it back on the card front when he's done. And then he can repeat this process as many times as his little two-year old self would like! Ha. And when all is said and done, the card will still look just as it did when he got it. (....though, I suppose the rocket may be a little worse for wear after getting man-handled so much! lol.)
The above photo gives you a better look at the little monkey, peeking out of the window.......love that clear card stock!
To finish things off, I created the little die cut moon (the rocket die also cuts out a moon and a star at the same time) by coloring it with the Y21 Copic marker. It's mounted with a bit of foam adhesive. The "To infinity and beyond!" sentiment (also from Boy Basics: Out of This World) was stamped on more rustic cream card stock. I trimmed the right edge with pinking sheers and added a couple of silver brads before adhering the sentiment to the card front.
I hope that you've had fun here today. Thanks so much for stopping by! Remember that there is lots more Boy Basics inspiration for you today so be sure to visit Nichole Heady as well as each of the Design Team girls....
