Hello there and happy Mother's Day,
I've got a few fun things to share with you today...
First off, if you haven't had a chance to listen yet, head over to Nichole's blog to listen to this week's Papertrey Radio podcast.....Erin interviewed me in this week's episode, so you may learn a new thing or two about me that you didn't already know or at the very least, maybe you'll get a laugh or two! Haha.
The first of our clematis plants started blooming this week. I'm quite certain these pretty pinkies decided to pop out and say hello in honor of Mother's Day. So sweet of them, don't you think?
We've got about 11 clematis plants all along one fence row. We planted them a couple at a time over the years, so they're all at various sizes and stages of growth, but one of these years they'll all finally be full grown and that fence row will be spectacular. :) They're also different varieties (all pinks and purples) so they bloom at slightly different times, but these are the first to pop and just today, some of the blooms on the largest of the plants started opening too.....a darker purple color. I'll have to show you some comparison photos as the blooming season progresses.
But for today......these cheery beauties wish you a happy mother's day. :)
I've also got a few books to recommend. If you're a mom and you get a gift card for a bookstore for mother's day, you might want to consider these. Or if you haven't gotten your mom a gift for mother's day yet, you could buy her an Amazon gift card online and email it to her or print it out at home and give it to her and then recommend one of these books to her. :) OR, if you just want to buy a book for yourself, you could go the bookstore and buy one of these or you could just order it on Amazon and have it shipped to your front door. Or you don't even have to buy them. You could go to the library and check them out. Or you could have your mom check them out. Or you could check them out for your mom. Just a few options for you. I'm here to help.
First up, The Lightkeeper's Ball by Colleen Coble.
This is the 3rd in the Lightkeeper's series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I've recommended the first two books in this series to you in previous book rec posts.
I love a good mystery, especially when it's got a bit of a love story thrown in. OK, maybe this one has a bit more than just a "bit" of a love story, but it's all intertwined with a mystery full of twists and turns. I love it when I can't figure out all of the details before I get to the end of the story. Just when I thought I had this one figured out, the story would take a turn that I wasn't expecting and I love that. I would definitely recommend this book.
Plus, the cover's just plain gorgeous. If there's ever a good reason to read a book, it's because of a pretty cover, right? ;)
Hearts Aglow (Striking a Match - book 2) by Tracie Peterson
Ok, now I've told you before that I've never read a Tracie Peterson book that I didn't enjoy and this one doesn't change that! BUT, I will say that this one left me totally wishing that book 3 in the series is already out. But it's not! Ha. Regardless, it's a good story that will leave you wanting more.
Ahhh....now this was a really fun read! The first in The Matchmakers series -- the "matchmakers" being a group of senior citizen grandmas that decide to try and pair up some of their grandchildren -- was a delightful read. A bit of a romantic comedy, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am already looking forward to the second and third books in the series (the second of which came out on May 1). You can't help but love the meddling but well-meaning grandmas and of course, you can't help but hope that their 30-something grandchildren (not children at all) can find happily ever after. And is it just me, or does the girl on the cover totally remind you of Nia Vardalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding??
Just sayin'...... :)
Mine is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs
Ahhh......I can't say enough good things about this story. This is the second and final book in this series and I highly, highly recommend it. Again, Liz Curtis Higgs always does a fantastic job, and certainly didn't disappoint with this one. A bit of Scottish fiction set in the mid-1700's, this is a beautiful story of love and redemption. Honestly, I wish that the story wouldn't end with this book, but never-the-less, I'm so happy to have read it. Start with Here Burns My Candle. You'll love these two books. Read them with a Scottish accent.....they're better that way! :)
Whether you're a mom or you're not, whether your mom is still living or whether she's not, I wish you a very happy mother's day. May this day be filled with joy for you. I wish you a put-your-feet-up-and-relax-with-a-good-book kind of day!
Much love, Dearies.....thanks for spending a bit of your day with me. Now go out there and have enjoy yourselves!
As for me, I'm off to church with my hottie hubs this morning and then we'll be spending time with my family. Looking forward to it.
