Happy Friday, Folks!
Today, I thought we'd talk weddings for just a bit. When I get a wedding invitation in the mail, one of the first things I notice are the colors. Brides spend a lot of time choosing the colors for their weddings and even more time incorporating those colors into as many details of the wedding as possible. The colors are important. They're important to the bride, maybe to the groom (hee) and therefore, they're important to me.
Mainly, they're important to me because I always prefer to make a wedding card using the bride & groom's chosen wedding colors, if at all possible. I showed you the above wedding card a week or two ago. I made it for a wedding we were going to and the main color I wanted to incorporate was that yummy eggplant color (royal velvet).
After creating a card for the happy couple, I also like to try and wrap the gift in coordinating colors if I can. Now I know that sometimes you might have the gift wrapped at the store or perhaps it's an odd size and you have to gift-bag it or whatever. But if I can, I think it's fun to wrap the gift in the wedding colors. I don't always go out and buy new gift wrap & trimmings to be able to do this, but I tend to try and keep some pretty and neutral wedding papers & bags on hand.....basic colors like silver, white or gold. In this case though, I happened to have this purple floral wrapping paper on hand and it worked perfectly for wrapping up this wedding gift. I added a big paper doily to the top of the box, piled on the plum pudding and royal velvet grosgrain ribbons and topped them with a big plum pudding button and a fat, sparkly rhinestone. Don't be afraid to use your paper-crafty supplies for gift wrapping. You've got all those gorgeous colors to work with, after all!
I also like to add a gift tag to wedding gifts. Yes, I know that I also made a card to go with the gift, but in the event that the card were to get separated from the gift, at least there's still a gift tag to identify it. We ended up with a wedding gift that had no card or tag or anything, back when we got married and I felt so bad that we didn't know who to send a thank you note too. Plus, gift tags are just fun and they give you the chance to reiterate the color scheme yet again!
For my gift tag, I used the tag sale #1 die and stamped some flowers from the Wildflower Garden stamp set as well as the "congratulations" sentiment and hearts image from Tag-Its #4.
The tag coordinates with the card which coordinates with the wrapping paper which coordinates with the wedding colors which makes me so happy!! :)
One other thing I like to do if I can, is to dress to coordinate with the wedding colors. Now, that doesn't mean that I have to be super matchy-matchy and it most definitely doesn't mean that I go buy a new outfit just to match the wedding, because I don't....I just do the best I can with what I have in my closet. But I think most brides would appreciate the guests wearing colors that coordinate (in case you end up in any pictures!) rather than sticking out like a sore thumb in pictures because your outfit completely clashes with the wedding colors! Haha.
Go ahead and laugh if you want to. But let me just say that when we went to this wedding, I wore an eggplant dress that I'd actually worn to a wedding last year and when we walked up to sign the guest book, the guest book attendant said to me, "OH! Your dress matches the wedding colors perfectly!" And thennnnn......the groom came over to greet us before the wedding (we are friends of the groom and hadn't met the bride before their wedding day) and the GROOM said to me, "Nice dress. You match the wedding colors."
:)
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Smooches!
