Hello there! Welcome back for Day 3 of the Papertrey Countdown! I've got a couple more projects to share with you today, showcasing my newest stamp set, Gratitude Journal.
For today's first project, I made a gratitude journal for a dear friend to tell her how thankful I am for her. This project is a great one to start out with, if you're new to putting mini books together or you don't want to build your own book from scratch. I started out with a canvas mini book by Maya Road. This particular mini book came with 6 canvas pages in it, but for purposes of today's project, I removed 3 of the pages and will save them for another book. (Two books for the price of one!)
I have a stash of fabric that I've had for quite some time now and haven't put it to use yet, so I busted out some of the Amy Butler patterns for this gratitude journal. This book is soooo easy -- don't let the canvas and fabric scare you! Ha. I simply cut rectangles of fabric with pinking sheers and stitched a border around each piece. When cutting the fabric, I didn't measure. I just eye-balled it. I wanted it to have a very home-spun feel, so I wasn't overly worried about keeping things super straight. I just cut out the pieces without over-thinking things.
The fabric is not stitched to the canvas! I merely stitched a border around each piece of fabric and then adhered the fabric to the canvas with scor-tape. (That way, I wouldn't have stitching on the back side that showed thru, since I was using both sides of each canvas page.) If you don't have a sewing machine, you could easily skip the sewing step.
After all of the fabric pieces are adhered to the pages, you can simply embellish each page however you wish.
To keep the entire book fairly uniform, I chose fabrics that coordinate with each other, and used 3 coordinating Papertrey colors for all of my embellishments. (aqua mist, spring moss & ripe avocado)
I also kept the layout of each page the same, and just changed up the details a bit -- I alternated doilies or fillable frames die cuts and swapped out the colors. But each page has a 1 3/4" circle of stamper's select white card stock on which I stamped and added journaling.
For the title page above, I stamped the "Gratitude, a journal" sentiment and flourish from Gratitude Journal. Behind the white circle is a limitless layers: 1 3/4" circle die cut as well as a doily details die cut. A strip of ripe avocado grosgrain finished off the cover page.
For each of the pages that follows, I stamped the "Thankful for" sentiment from Gratitude Journal on the white circle, as well as the journaling lines image. That way, I had a place to jot down a few things about my dear friend that I'm thankful for.
On the above page, I also added a fillable frames #11 die cut (ripe avocado) and stamped it with the coordinating image from the new Fillable Frames Additions 2 stamp set. The spring moss layer was die cut with a limitless layers: 1 3/4" circle die and there's a bit of aqua mist grosgrain ribbon peeking out from the bottom of the tag.
On the page above, I used a Doily Details die to create the ripe avocado doily.
On this next page, I used another limitless layers die cut (aqua mist card stock) as well as a fillable frames #8 die cut, and stamped it with the coordinating image from Fillable Frames Additions 2.
For the page above, I added a strip of ripe avocado saddle stitch ribbon as well as another Doily Details die cut (aqua mist card stock).
On this last page, I used one more limitless layers die cut (ripe avocado) as well as a Fillable Frames #10 die cut (aqua mist), which was stamped with it's coordinating Fillable Frames Additions 2 image.
By using similar supplies and 3 specific colors throughout the project, it made it fairly simple to put this gratitude journal together, but I love it's uniformity and I think the end result is quite beautiful! I hope my sweet friend likes it too!
Before I go, how about a Gratitude Journal card? :)
Ahhh.....there's another one of those flowers you've been getting peeks at this week! I die cut the flower from lavender moon card stock and stitched a lavender moon button to it's center with rustic jute button twine. After the flower was assembled, I dragged the edges of the petals across my plum pudding ink pad to add a bit more color dimension to the flower. Those frosted tips remind me of the purple & white mums that are currently on my kitchen table! :)
I die cut some spring moss card stock with a Turning a New Leaf die and dragged the edges of the leaves across a spring moss ink pad before stamping the leaves with dots from Polka Dot Basics II.
Beneath the flower, I stamped the large flourish image from Gratitude Journal four times, creating a sort of mat. This provided the perfect place to nest the flower on.
For the sentiments, I stamped the "Gratitude, the state of being grateful" sentiment from Gratitude Journal in plum pudding ink followed by the scalloped image (also from Gratitude Journal) in spring moss ink. Lastly, I stamped the "Thank You" sentiment from Think Big Favorites #4 to round out the sentiment. I love how well these 3 elements work together to create a striking sentiment.
That's it for me today, but I hope you'll join me again tomorrow for some more Gratitude Journal fun. In the meantime, be sure to visit Nichole Heady, Lisa Johnson and Maile Belles as well as Melissa Bickford for more Countdown sneak peeks.
Thanks so much for visiting me today! I appreciate you all so much!
Have a goodie,
