Hi there,
Happy September! It's the first of the month again, which means that it's time for another Senior Design Team Challenge at Papertrey Ink. This time, Nichole has challenged us to pull out our Spooky Sweets II stamp sets and create a card and a treat of some sort for Halloween.
Here at the McVey ranch, we don't really celebrate the spooky, however I can always use a cute treat and card for a friend, so I went for the sweeter side of Halloween when creating this little ensemble. :)
I started out with a pint sized (16oz.) Ball mason jar. You can get them in packs of 4 at Wal-mart for just a few dollars. I then cut a square of Amy Butler fabric from my stash, with pinking sheers, and laid it over the top of the flat lid. Then, I screwed the seal part of the lid over the top of it to secure the fabric in place. Easy peasy!
To decorate the top of the jar, I used the Limitless Layers: 2 1/2" circle dies on dark chocolate and rustic cream card stock layers. On the cream layer, I stamped a sentiment and the pretty circle image from Spooky Sweets II and embellished with some melon berry buttons and twine. I adhered both layers with foam adhesive, right on top of the fabric.
I used one of the Jar Labels 2 dies to make the little tag for the jar and stamped another sentiment from Spooky Sweets II ("cookies in a jar") on the tag before tying it to the jar with chocolate baker's twine.
Now, back when the set was designed, this sentiment was referring to those cookie mixes that you can layer in a jar and give away and then the recipient can bake their own cookies. But I chose to go a bit more literal with the sentiment and actually put cookies -- already made -- in the jar. Ha. Very clever, right? ;)
Bake cookies if you'd like, or go with one of my store-bought favorites like I did -- Keebler Grasshoppers -- the choice is yours. I personally think the dark chocolate color of the Grasshoppers was the perfect choice for coordinating with my fabric! Hee. Ooooh, and can't you just see a cute little jar of those Nutter-Butter cookies?! Caaa-UTE!
As for the card, I used similar elements to mimic the look of the jar and help tie everything together. The card base is melon berry topped with some vintage book print. The large tag was created in the same manner as for the jar above. This time, I added the pretty flourish image at the bottom of the card (stamped in melon berry ink) as well as some Bitty Box Basics patterned paper and a strip of melon berry classic grosgrain ribbon.
Hope you've enjoyed today's projects! Don't forget that Nichole Heady and the other girls on the Sr. Design Team have projects to share with you today too. Be sure to pop over and pay 'em a visit!
