Hi there!! It's the FIRST OF NOVEMBER! How the heck did that happen?! Did you all have a good Halloween (those of you, in the US)?
Well, with the first of November, besides chilly temperatures and falling leaves, also comes the Senior Design Team challenge over at Papertrey Ink. This month, Nichole challenged us to pull out those Calendar Basics stamp sets and whip up a calendar project for 2012. I was excited to use the 2012 Large Calendar Pages for my project....they're $7 for the pages and you can decorate them up however you'd like, and with all of those goodies you probably already have in your stash! That's my kind of project! Just think of what cute gifts these would make!
As you can see, the bottom half of the page has the calendar on it, and the top half is a blank canvas just waiting for you to work your magic on it! If you're a card-maker, just think of it as a large card to decorate on the top half of the page. And if you're a scrapbooker, just think of it as a mini layout to decorate!
For the top half of my January page, I started out with some rustic cream card stock and stamped it with Background Basics: Newsprint using smokey shadow ink. Next, I used some vintage touch tea dye ink around the edges to distress it a bit. As you can see, I also stamped the large leaf image from Harvest Berries, using hawaiian shores ink.
To finish off that background, I also splattered on some Mister Huey's classic calico spray mist and then sprayed on some Mister Huey's calico shine (links at the bottom of this post). I wish you could see this in real life.......the page looks perfectly vintage....perfectly old. Sigh.
Next, I started piling on some layered elements in the bottom right hand corner, to dress it up a bit. I used the mat stack 4 die and coordinating stamp from Modern Wood Mats to create the back layer. The double-ended banner die was used to cut the aqua mist layer, and then I stamped the "January" on it from Calendar Basics. I also added several images from Candy Cane Christmas & the coordinating dies. Simple clear rhinestones finished things off.
In the upper right hand corner, I stitched a tab that was cut with a journal tabs die. The "2012" stamp is also from Calendar Basics and I topped things off with a threaded aqua mist button.
I used the cute little "HB" stamp from Calendar Basics to add birthdays to the calendar portion of the page.
Next up is my February page.
In the upper left hand corner, I added a couple scalloped strips of Simple Valentine patterned paper and stitched a thin strip of rustic cream card stock over the top. The heart prints dies were used to create the hearts and I stamped the "February" from Calendar Basics on the large heart.
As you can see, I also plattered on some Mister Huey's calico white spray mist.
In the bottom right corner, I stamped a flourish from Fancy Flourishes and added a Half & Half die cut pure poppy strip which I stitched with my sewing machine. I used another image from Modern Wood Mats, stamped in raspberry fizz ink and layered on another die cut heart as well as some buttons. The small heart/circle image is from Calendar Basics.
On my March calendar, I added a large piece of berry sorbet patterned paper from the 2009 bitty box basics collection.
I added a scalloped strip of dark chocolate card stock as well as a thin strip of rustic cream card stock that I stamped with the "2012" image over and over again. The "March" stamp was added just above the 2012 strip.
For the center of this page, I used the mat stack 5 die and the coordinating image from Modern Wood Mats as well as a doily details die cut. On top of that, I added a limitless layers: 1 3/4" scalloped circle die cut of dark chocolate card stock and to finish things off, I created a flower from berry sorbet card stock using the Bloom Builders 3 die and an American Crafts jewel brad. A bit of fine linen grosgrain ribbon behind it all, sets things off nicely.
I must say, it was so fun to create some pretty calendar pages to keep in the studio. Pages that will not only help me to keep up with the days of the week, but pages that will also provide me with some creative inspiration down the road.
I hope you've enjoyed today's project! Be sure to visit Nichole Heady and the girls on the Sr. Design Team to see their calendar projects as well!
