Hi there!
The Papertrey Ink anniversary festivities and Countdown to this month's product release are well underway! I hope you're having fun so far! Today, Nichole Heady has several new stamp sets to introduce to you, as well as info about today's fun contest. As usual, there's another great prize package to be had so you won't want to miss out! I thought I'd play along today too.....the challenge is to make a card incorporating hearts. Easy peasy!
Hearts make me think of my sister, Diann. Always. She's the one next in line after me and she was born on Valentine's Day so hearts have always been her "signature". One year, my mom decided to be sneaky and mark our Christmas gifts with symbols instead of our names, so we wouldn't know who's gifts were who's until Christmas morning. So she marked mine with stars and Diann's with hearts. Yeah.....we had a really hard time cracking that code! Hahaha.
So every year when Diann's birthday would roll around, it became our challenge to find her a "Valentine Birthday" card. Not such an easy task! Of course there are a gazillion Valentine cards and five gazillion birthday cards, but to get both on one card.....well, let's just say that Hallmark carries about two of them -- literally -- every year. :) So since I started making my own cards, I have the luxury of making her a special Valentine birthday card every year and you know what? It's pretty darn fun. And not only that, I think she appreciates the extra effort.
So with that being said, today's card is for her. Let's hope she's too busy with the littles and baby Zoey to read my blog this week! Haha. OH, and since we're talking about her, guess what! She's having {another} baby!! Yes, baby Zoey will be 15 months when the new baby arrives!! That means she'll have a 4 year old, a 3 year old, a 15 month old and a newborn! Crazy town! Heeeeee. But you know this auntie is overjoyed!!
Anywho, that was a little bit of a side-track. Back to the birthday card. :) The Happy Day stamp set and die were used to create the sentiment focal point. I simply left off the 's on "Valentine's" and then added the word "Birthday" from Birthday Basics, to create the perfect Valentine Birthday sentiment!
For the background, I started out with a panel of rustic cream card stock that I used to layer all of my stamps and papers on. At the top of the panel, I stamped the postmark image from 2010 Love Tags. (I loved being able to include her actual birth date on the card!) Below that are a few strips of card stock (pure poppy, raspberry fizz and dark chocolate) and then, I stamped some teeny hearts from Background Basics: Hearts in raspberry fizz ink.
Next up is some Simple Valentine patterned paper followed by another thin strip of pure poppy card stock, some more hearts from BB: Hearts and a strip of raspberry fizz card stock die cut with the heart border die. (Everyone who's sister was born on Valentine's Day should have a heart border die in their arsenal, don't you think? *smile*) Finishing off the card is a heart from 2010 Love Tags, stamped in versamark ink on pure poppy card stock, heat embossed with clear embossing powder and hand cut. And of course, lastly is a raspberry fizz button threaded with some chocolate baker's twine.
All righty, that's it for me. I had a ton of fun playing along with today's challenge and I also checked a birthday card off my list while I was at it! Are you planning to play along today too?
