Edited to Add: So I've been getting some questions about the drawer unit below.....I don't honestly remember where I bought it! I'm so sorry!! I've had it for at least 9 or 10 years and I *think* we got it at one of those stores that sells hand made crafts and home decor.....though it's been so long, I honestly don't remember where.
Hi there!
Welcome back for another fun Papertrey Group Post! Today, we're focusing on a new product ensemble designed by Nichole Heady consisting of the Desktop File: Inspiration stamp set as well as a set of coordinating Desktop File dies. Each of the design team girls will be showing you these new goodies in action, and I've got a fun little filing system to show you, that I created, for cataloging ideas and inspiration.
I've had the drawer unit in the photo above, for years, and it turns out the drawers are the perfect size for holding this new filing system!!
I used the new Desktop File dies to cut out the divider cards. See how perfectly they fit in these drawers?
I die cut dividers from simply chartreuse, new leaf, hawaiian shores and summer sunrise card stocks and then stamped each with a title from Desktop File: Inspiration. The titles are all categories that I can add bits of inspiration to as I collect them.
After stamping the titles, I stamped each card with Background Basics: Rainbows because as we all know, storage systems should be as cute as possible! :)
For the sketches card, I stamped it with simply chartreuse and ripe avocado inks. I also cut 4 rustic cream cards on my paper cutter, to 4" x 2 1/2" each. This way, I can easily add more cards at any time, to any of the different categories. Next, I stamped those cards with the grid image from Desktop File: Inspiration, so that the cards are ready and waiting for me to add sketches at any time.
Next up is the quotes category. I stamped the new leaf card stock with new leaf and simply chartreuse inks. The cream cards are stamped with the lined image using hawaiian shores ink, as well as the "original source:" stamp -- both from Desktop File: Inspiration.
Next came the color combos cards....these are the fun ones!! :) The hawaiian shores file card was stamped with Background Basics: Rainbows using hawaiian shores and ocean tides inks. The cards were each stamped with the "color combos" grid using true black ink and then I used the little rectangle image from Desktop File: Inspiration to stamp various colors inside each box, to complete the color combos. Lastly, I hand wrote the color names next to each color, so that I have an easy reference any time I'm needing a color combo for a project.
Lastly came the ideas section (though, as you'll see in the stamp set's full reveal, there are lots of other categories you can add to your own desktop file! The summer sunrise card was stamped using summer sunrise and orange zest inks and the cream cards in this category were stamped using the same lined image you saw above.
Aren't they cute all together?
So if a file type storage solution isn't really your thing, you could also use Desktop File: Inspiration to create a little flip book that you can easily add to and expand as needed.
To start off with, I've created a cover for my little flip book. Since I wanted this to be able to travel well, I opted to keep the cover a simple one-layer style and not have any extra layers popping off the front.
I stamped the grid image from Desktop File: Inspiration using summer sunrise ink and added some of the words (from Desktop File: Inspiration) using dark chocolate and simply chartreuse inks. Lastly, I stamped a couple butterflies from Beautiful Butterflies using hawaiian shores and orange zest inks.
Each page is cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" which allows me to sketch in actual card size and each inside page is cut from Guide Lines Grid card stock -- which, again, allows for easy sketching. I punched a hole in the top of all the pages and for now, they're simply tied with a bit of baker's twine. However in the future, as the book grows, I can easily switch to a jump ring instead of the twine.
In the upper right corner of each sketch, I also stamped the word 'vertical' from Desktop File: Inspiration, so I know that this is a vertical layout.
On the back side of each card, I stamped three different boxes from Desktop File: Inspiration, so that I can add notes and color combo options for that particular sketch!
And in case you thought Desktop File: Inspiration couldn't be used on a card.....
Think again! :)
I stamped the grid image from Desktop File: Inspiration twice, using simply chartreuse ink on a rustic cream card base. Next, I used the Desktop File Center die to die cut simply chartreuse card stock, which I then stamped with the word "Inspiration" as well as the techniques box (from Desktop File: Inspiration) to give some graphic interest to the card.
Over on the right of the card, I stamped the "for the record" sentiment from We Go Together, using ripe avocado ink. On top of the file card, I added a couple flowers and leaves from Natural Beauties. The larger flower was stamped with summer sunrise and orange zest inks, while the smaller flower was stamped with hibiscus burst, raspberry fizz and canyon clay inks. And orange zest button tops the large flower.
Next up, I thought I'd share a few more We Go Together cards! I started out with a rustic cream card base here and added some summer sunrise pattern pack (damask) paper. A half & half die was used to die cut the simply chartreuse layer. A rustic cream panel was stamped with the frame from Garden Variety using ripe avocado ink.
I pulled out the Daydreamer stamp set and stamped and then hand cut some flowers and leaves. The larger flower was inked with summer sunrise ink first and then I dabbed the edges of the stamp across and orange zest ink pad before stamping.
As you can see, the "Thinking of you today" sentiment from We Go Together tucks just perfectly into the bottom of the frame! A threaded simply chartreuse button was added to finish things off.
How about a different spin on a Damask Designs card? For this one, I started out with a kraft card base.
A panel of guide lines grid card stock was stamped first with the bitty dot stamp from Polka Dot Basics II using harvest gold ink. Next, I stamped it with an image from Damask Designs using summer sunrise ink.
Along the bottom of the card, I added the striped paper from the summer sunrise pattern pack topped with some looped canyon clay grosgrain ribbon.
The sentiment from We Go Together was stamped on a limitless layers die cut circle, using orange zest ink. It's layered on kraft card stock die cut with a doily details die.
All righty, one more for today....
I couldn't resist pairing this sentiment with the coffee reference from We Go Together with the coffee mug image from my Candy Cane Christmas stamp set! ;)
Along the bottom of the card, I added a die cut strip of hawaiian shores card stock that was die cut with the heart border die and topped with a strip of stamper's select white card stock.
Whew....that's it for me today! I hope you've enjoyed today's projects! Be sure to visit each of the other girls on the design team to see their Desktop File: Inspiration projects!
