It's no secret that I love antiques. I love finding that perfect vintage item that makes my heart beat a little faster....something beautiful and detailed or perfectly funtional but with that gorgeous patina that comes with years of love and use. I love the story these items tell. I love the combination of old and new. I love vintage items used in a way that makes them feel new again.
Vintage ephemera has been a popular to use in paper crafting for quite some time now. In fact, while on vacation recently, we did some antiquing and came across a huge box of vintage sewing patterns. I would have loved to have them to use in paper crafting, however they were only selling the huge box all together. For $30. Not only did I not want to spend $30 on patterns, we were also flying home and it was not feasible to bring them with.....but also, I just didn't need a huge box of patterns. Just a couple would have done nicely. Perhaps you've found yourself in a similar situation before. Or you just don't have access to antique stores or estate sales where you could find some vintage ephemera for yourself. That's where Papertrey comes in! Papertrey has quite a few stamp sets that allow you to easily recreate your own vintage ephemera-inspired items, easily and any time you want!
For today, I pulled out the Library Card and It's Official stamp sets, to create a few vintage-inspired items....
It's Official was paired with the spiral notebook page die to create an order ticket. I also created an old-timey library card as well as a bingo card. The vintage touch tea dye ink in chai was used around the edges of each, to give them that worn/old look. And the best part about vintage-inspired items such as these, is that they work so well, with so many of Papertrey's brand new products. They never seem to go out of style, which means that you get so much more bang for your paper-crafting buck!
I decided to pair my old-timey items with the new Natural Beauties stamp set (the official Stamp-A-Faire set for this year), because I think you can achieve such pretty flowers with this set, each with a vintage feel, depending on your ink choices. I stamped the flowers and leaves and cut them each out by hand, and then layered everything together.
I kept the basic layout on each card pretty much the same, making it easy to whip up several cards at a time. I started out with a different card base on each one (in this case, berry sorbet) and then added some Dearest Jane patterned paper to each. I love the vintage-feel that the text lends itself to, almost as if I'd used some vintage book print. On top of that, is a layer of the polka dotted paper from various pattern packs -- in this case, simply chartreuse.
The sentiments on each card are from my Tagged Sentiments stamp set, and were chosen for these cards, for their vintage-typography style. The flowers on this first card were stamped with berry sorbet ink (stamped off on scratch paper once, first) topped with the shadow image in pure poppy ink. Pure poppy buttons finish off the flowers.
This card uses aqua mist card stock for the base, pure poppy pattern pack paper (dots) and the flowers are stamped with aqua mist ink topped with new leaf ink and new leaf buttons. Since the library card is a bit larger than the order ticket and bingo card, I chose to stamp the sentiment on the library card itself. I also opted to use pure poppy ink on the sentiment instead of black ink like on the other cards, since the order ticket itself, was stamped in black ink. I wanted the sentiment to 'pop' a bit more.
The last card uses aqua mist pattern pack paper and the flowers were stamped first with harvest gold ink (large flower) and summer sunrise ink (small flower), and both were topped with orange zest ink and harvest gold buttons.
Creating a set of cards like this is so fun....I love that each one has it's own unique characteristics and yet they all coordinate perfectly because of the colors chosen and the similar layout. Card sets like this make a perfect gift or are just plain handy to have on hand, when you need to drop a note in the mail to someone special.
Do you have a love of all things vintage? I hope I've inspired you to pull out those stamp sets and do a little vintage-inspired paper-crafting of your own today!
Thanks so much for popping in!
