Hi there!
Welcome back for the first Papertrey Group Post this month! Today, it's all about sharing Halloween inspiration using three of the new releases this month....Mr. Bones, Tremendous Treats: Halloween and Happy Haunting! I've got a tag, a card and treat packaging to share with you so let's get right to it!
For this first gift tag, I've used Heather's new Mr. Bones stamp set and paired it with my Herringbone Impression Plate.
I started out with the tag sale #6 die and cut the tag from kraft card stock and the reinforcer at the top, from canyon clay card stock. I stamped the sentiment from Mr. Bones using true black ink and then ran the tag thru my Vagabond with the Herringbone impression plate. Man, this plate adds so much texture to the card stock! I'm a little bit smitten with it! Next, I splattered on some Mister Huey's spray mist in inky black.
I used the Mr. Bones dies and stamps to create the little skeleton and jack-o-lantern, and then colored the pumpkin with copic markers. The last addition was a snippet of black washi tape wrapped around the bottom corner of the tag.
Next up is a card with the Tremendous Treats: Halloween set and Background Basics: Herringbone!
The little monsters were stamped on melon berry, berry sorbet and white card stock and were hand cut and assembled. The small scalloped border die was used to add the row of white scallops and the sentiment (from Tremendous Treats: Halloween) was stamped with true black ink. The strip of dotty paper is from the smokey shadow pattern pack.
For the background, I used Background Basics: Herringbone and stamped it off to the left side of the card, so that the pointed side of the stamp became part of the decorative background. Lastly, I splattered on some Mister Huey's calico white spray mist.
Next up, I have a little story to tell you. A Pacman story. :)
When I was little, my dad worked for the Montgomery Ward catalog house, in the toy department. This was back in the days before the internet, when if you wanted to be the first to get that hot new toy that was coming out, you called the catalog house and ordered one up. Ha. So one day in 1980 (I was 5 and Diann was 3), they gave my dad this hand-held Pacman game to bring home and "let the kids try out" so he could give them feedback, for their ordering purposes.
In case you're curious, I googled and found this photo of the Pacman game! The story is much better, with the photo, I think! lol. I can't even believe I found a photo of it.....this just proves that you really can find ANYthing on the internet. HA!
So, my dad brings the game home and Diann and I got to play with it a little bit before MY PARENTS got totally addicted to it! Keep in mind, this was when all the cool kids had an Atari game system. We, however, did not have an Atari. Hahaha. So this Pacman game was kind of a big deal. My parents got so sucked in, that they had to keep playing in order to keep beating each other's high score!! My mom would play during the day while my dad was at work, and then dad would play when he got home from work. And all the while, Diann and I were saying, "Mom, can we play Pacman now?" and "Dad, when can we have a turn?". Hahahaha. This story cracks me up now. But at the time, not so much. I was 5, for Pete's sake. :) I just wanted to playyyy!
So now that you have that little bit of back history, you can see how Pacman has a special place in my heart. And the funny thing is that Bart and I both have the Pacman app on our iPhones now and everytime we get to see the littles (4 year old Ally and 3 year old Malachi), Pacman is one of the things they want to play.
It is with all of that in mind, that I couldn't resist making Pacman Pockets for Ally & Malachi! Every time I looked at the little ghost/monsters in Melissa's new Happy Haunting stamp set, I just kept seeing Pacman ghosts, so I decided to roll with it! :)
To get started on the Pacman Pockets, I used the Front & Center dies to cut out some Guide Lines grid card stock. I wanted to make each pocket for Ally & Chi a little different, so each one gets a different Front & Center die cut. I stamped the "Boo to you!" sentiment (from Happy Haunting) in the upper right corner and then scored the die cut and folded it in the middle. I also stamped a pattern from Background Basics: Tin Types in summer sunrise ink, because it reminds me of the little dots in the game, that Pacman eats! Haha.
On the back side of the die cut, I simply lined the two side edges with a strip of scor-tape, and then folded the two sides together. Instant pocket!
And of course, if I was making two separate Pacman pockets -- one for a boy and one for a girl -- I had to make one of them Ms. Pacman!! Heeeee. I used a Bells & Boughs die and stamp, to create Ms. Pacman's bow. I simply cut the tails off of the bow die cut, to make it look like the real Ms. Pacman. :)
To create the Pacman/Ms. Pacman, I used the Limitless Layers: 2 1/2" circle die to cut out harvest gold card stock and then cut a wedge out of the circle. Nothin' to it!
To create the Pacman ghosts, I used the new Happy Haunting die and simply trimmed off their arms. I stamped them with the eyes from Happy Haunting that are most like the ones on the actual game ghosts.
On the back side of the pocket, I added a few more ghosts in summer sunrise, hawaiian shores, and pure poppy. Again, I chose these colors, to be as close to the real game ghosts as I could get.
Inside each pocket is a medium glassine bag filled with M&M's (a favorite of the littles). I folded the top down on the bag and added a Love Lives Here die cut circle folded over the top and closed with a tiny attacher staple.
I can't wait to give these to the littles! I think they'll love them!
You could easily make these as a fun Halloween treat or for any occasion all year long!
So now how about we switch gears a little bit......here's a little card for you featuring Foodie Fun and Background Basics: Herringbone. I made this card extra long and skinny -- it's 6 1/2" inches long. On the kraft panel, I stamped Background Basics: Herringbone using classic kraft ink....the stamp is wide enough that I only had to stamp it once to cover the entire height of the panel. I then stamped it one more time next to the first one, to cover the entire length of the card stock. The zig zag edge on the sides, makes it super easy to line up so you can stamp any length you need to.
It's like I said with the chocolate bars, if one gelato is good, surely 5 are better, right? Haha. I used the Foodie Fun die to cut out each of these little gelatos and then stamped the cups in dark chocolate. The gelato is stamped in (l-r): lavender moon, berry sorbet, spring moss, melon berry and harvest gold. Each of the waffle crisps are stamped in classic kraft and I topped each one with a coordinating gemstone.
The sentiment from Foodie Fun was stamped in the corner, and I also stamped one of the tiny flourish images from Foodie Fun, onto the s, for a bit of added flair.
Lastly for today is a little card featuring the Herringbone Impression Plate. I couldn't resist!
I cut the card to 4 1/4" squared and stamped the sentiment from We Go Together, in the bottom corner with true black ink. Next, I ran the card front thru my Vagabond with the Herringbone impression plate. You will love the amazing detail this impression plate creates!!
The embellishment was super simple to put together. I had a new package of Maya Road canvas butterflies on my desk, so I sprayed one with Mister Huey's spray mist in pretty pink and after heat-setting the spray, layered it over a plain butterfly. I added two decorative straight pins and topped them with a cabachon flower that a friend gave me recently. I used glossy accents to adhere the canvas layers together, as well as to the card front and to adhere the flower on top. Easy peasy.
Isn't that herringbone texture delicious?!!
That's all I've got for today, but I certainly hope you've enjoyed today's projects! I can't wait to hear from you!
