Hello there!! I can't believe I'm saying this but it's AUGUST already! With it, the first of the month brings the next Senior Design Team Challenge at Papertrey Ink.
It's still hotter than blue blazes around here, but I'm dreaming of fall and all of the coziness that comes with it (including cooler temperatures!). That being said, this month's Senior Design Team challenge couldn't have come at a better time. We're revisiting the previously released Leaf Prints stamp set and of course all of those gorgeous leaves make me think of fall. And while leaves are fallish, I also think they make a really great motif for masculine cards. I put together a masculine birthday card and a couple of coordinating gift tags using Leaf Prints.
I started out by die cutting two of the Wine Bottle Tag die cuts and a Tag Sale #6 die cut from the dotted paper in the Road Trip collection. While dots may typically be more thought of as girly, because of the oranges in this particular paper and the other elements I'm pairing them with, I think they work nicely on these masculine projects.
Next, I die cut some leaves from Dearest Jane patterned paper, using the Leaf Prints dies and then I stamped them with coordinate stamps from the Leaf Prints stamp set. The leaf colors were stamped with melon berry and terracotta tile inks and the veins/stems were stamped with dark chocolate ink. I love having that added bit of detail that the text provides, peeking out from behind the stamped images.
For the card, I used a kraft card base (a bit more masculine than cream or white) and covered the front of the card with one of the map papers from Road Trip. Next, I added one of the wine bottle tag die cuts, trimming off the top portion, and stamped the "Happy Birthday to you" sentiment from my Signature Greetings II stamp set, using dark chocolate ink. The layout of the sentiment fits nicely, when tucked into the right corner of the tag die cut.
At the top of the card, I added two of my die cut leaves, popping them up with foam adhesive.
For one last detail, I pulled out some actual vintage postage stamps that were recently given to me (Thank you so much, to my sweet friend Susan!!). I sorted thru and found colors that complimented my overall color scheme and adhered 3 to each tag and the card, followed by a dark chocolate button to finish things off.
The stamps pair well with the map theme and of course, the colors couldn't have been more perfect! Don't be afraid to use authentic found items such as these postage stamps, to give your projects added interest! Better to use them to make something beautiful, than leave them in a drawer being ignored, right? :)
I kept both of the tags' elements the same as the card. This wine bottle tag doesn't have to just be hung on a wine bottle! This fun, over-sized tag can easily be tied onto any gift, or you can simply cut a slit in the ring up top, and slip it onto a gift bag handle!
I hope you've enjoyed today's Leaf Prints projects! Do you have the Leaf Prints stamp set?? I challenge you to bust that bad boy out and give it some inky love! Feel free to link up your projects here in the comments section....I'd love to see what you come up with!
