Hi there!
I'm thrilled to report that my missing package of remaining Papertrey goodies finally arrived, so I have lots and lots of projects to finally be able to share with you today!! Let's talk about Stitched Sentiments first, shall we? :)
I adore this set, but mostly when paired with the new Aida impression plate. I can't even tell you how realistic that impression plate is!! Cream colored card stock looks sooooo much like actual aida cloth that you cross stitch on, when impressed with the Aida Impression Plate, it's crazy!! I love it!
I stamped the leaf border images on the pure poppy bitty dot patterned paper, to add a bit of subtle detail to the background. The embroidery hoop was die cut using the new In Stitches die and was stamped with the coordinating images from Stitched Sentiments. Next, I stamped the "MAY" and stitched images on the cream card stock circle and then ran the circle thru the Vagabond with the Aida impression plate. Topping it all is a banner, die cut using another of the In Stitches dies, and stamped with a coordinating sentiment from Stitched Sentiments.
Here's another stitchy card. :) For this one, I wanted the leafy images to shine, so I stamped both of those first, followed by the tiny berries and flowers and the stitched "LOVE" and images above and below it. The banner was stamped next, using simply chartreuse ink and topped with another sentiment from Stitched Sentiments.
The entire rustic cream panel was impressed with the Aida impression plate. Seriously, the texture that that thing adds is crazy! Get it. You need it. Trust me on this. :)
Now, let's move on to some knitty goodness. :) First up, I thought I'd show you a scarf I knitted for my honey. He chose the yarn color and I was so excited to make this for him. I've never made him anything crafty before -- haha -- so this was so fun! And I'll be super excited to see him actually wear it! YAY!
Of course, with any hand-knitted gift, I can now create darling gift tags thanks to several new stamp sets that Nichole designed for us this month! This is the pair of gift tags I made for Bartley's scarf.....the larger of the two was die cut from rustic cream card stock using the tag sale #5 die. I stamped the cabled border image from Knit Bits using pure poppy ink twice along the bottom half of the tag and topped that with a pure poppy button and some button twine. Along the top of the tag, I stamped a pair of sentiments from Purls of Wisdom, creating the "made with love by me for you" sentiment. As soon as he got home today, I gave him the scarf and grinned from ear to ear as he read the tag, because he knows it really was made with love by me for him. :) I also added a little row of stitching with one of the little border strips from Sew Simple Borders.
Lastly, I die cut a bit of kraft card stock with one of the tags from the Tiny Tags die collection and stamped it with the 'care instructions' and little care symbols from the Handle With Care Mini stamp set. I LOVE that I can add the care instructions to all of my knitted gifts from now on! SO fun and so professional and so USEFUL too! Without that little detail, the recipient would totally wonder how to wash (or not wash) a gift like this!
To tie the tags onto the scarf, I simply used an extra snippet of the same yarn as the scarf....easy peasy.
Next is a gift idea for those of you that don't knit or crochet but know someone who does. Consider giving the gift of YARN!! I know it sounds a little daunting. If you don't knit or crochet, you might think to yourself that you have no idea where to even start....what type of yarn to get.....how big or what color or whatever. But consider this. If you're reading this, you're probably a crafty person right? Perhaps paper crafting is your thing. Don't you love it when someone gives you new crafty goodies to play with? Maybe it's something you've never used before that you get to try for the first time, or maybe it's something you've already used and love and now you've got more of it to play with! Either way, if you're crafty, getting crafty supplies is a fun gift to receive, right?
Well, I think most knitters and crocheters would say the same thing! It might be that you'd give them a type of yarn that they've never tried before and they'd love the fun of trying something new. Or perhaps it's exactly the kind they already love, and you don't even know it, but either way they'd probably be thrilled with it! Plus, any knitter or crocheter will tell you that yarn can be expensive, depending on what you get. So they might not normally splurge on a yarn that you could totally give as a gift....something they wouldn't normally buy for themselves, but would LOVE to have and work with!
My tip is this -- if you go to an actual yarn/knitting shop where they roll the hanks of yarn (like you see in the photo above) into a ball for you -- don't have them ball the yarn. Just leave the yarn as is, and check to see if the yarn can be exchanged in the event that it's not exactly what your recipient can use. That way, you're covered either way. A lot of shops will let you bring the yarn back, as long as it hasn't been opened or rolled into a ball.
And all that being said, if you're giving the gift of yarn, it's totally fun to add a cute hand made gift tag!! I LOVE this sentiment from Purls of Wisdom -- "Life is too short to use cheap yarn."!!! Haaaaa! That cracks me up! And now that I've learned to knit, I whole-heartedly agree! LOL. The tag was die cut with the new Tag Sale #7 die. The sentiments at the top, as well as the hearts, are all from Purls of Wisdom. The row of 'x' stitches is from Sew Simple Borders. The cute little balls of yarn and knitting needles at the bottom are from Knit Bits and I added the 'enjoy' sentiment from 2009 Autumn Tags. I love the idea of being able to send some yarn off to a crafty friend and I know she'll totally appreciate the sentiment too....I'm sure she'll laugh, just like I did when I saw it! Haha! :)
Here are a couple more scarves I've knitted lately.....they might be for me or they might be gifts. My lips are sealed.....Christmas is coming, after all! Regardless, I have a fun little card to go with!
On the bottom of the hawaiian shores card base, I stamped the cabled image from Knit Bits. On the rustic cream panel, I stamped the knitted image, the knitting needles, the ball of yarn and the string, to create the fun little scene. The "love you" sentiment and circle frame are from Tag-Its #5. Just above that, I stamped another of the stitched borders from Sew Simple Borders and topping everything off is the sentiments from Purls of Wisdom, "simply put, I'm so glad that we're close knit."
Here's another fun little card, this one for a birthday. The card base is new leaf card stock and I impressed it with the Striped Sweater impression plate from last month's release. Then, in between the rows if impressions, I added stamped stitches from Sew Simple Borders.
The sock, yarn and needle images are all from Knit Bits and the sentiments are from Purls of Wisdom. There are also two strips of stitching stamped around the sentiment.....those are actually the same image! If you rock the image slightly when stamping it, you can get a wider stitch.
Next up is a FUN little card! Heeee.....it makes me smile. I used the new Shape Up Series: Sweater dies to create the card base as well as the trim on the sweater. Next, I ran the card front through the Vagabond with my Herringbone impression plate. I LOVE that texture on this little sweater!!
And every sweater needs a fun flower pin, right?! I die cut several layers of vintage book print with the Beautiful Blooms dies and put them all together with a brad. The double-ended banner die was used on kraft card stock and I masked off the sentiment and stamped part of it on each of the two banner ends.
Lastly for today, I have a card featuring the Hanging By a Thread stamp set! The new Thread Cards dies were used to cut out those little thread cards and then I stamped the coordinating images (my favorites!) from Hanging By a Thread. I wrapped them with embroidery floss and topped one with some pretty pins. They're layered on a die cut & stamped embroidery hoop (Stitched Sentiments).
The cream card stock in the background was stamped with the "LOVE YOU" from Stitched Sentiments and that panel was also impressed with the Aida impression plate. Some My Mind's Eye baker's twine finished things off!
Whew!! That's it for me today, but I hope you've enjoyed today's projects....I know they're a bit late, but better late than never, right? :) Be sure to visit Danielle and Maile today too, because they also got some late product this month, and have projects to share with you today, using those new goodies!
Thanks so much for sharing a bit of your day with me!
I'll chat with you soon!
