I'm in a Bible study with several girls from church and yesterday, a couple of those girls and some of their family members ran in a half marathon. We went to cheer them on along the way, and then as we waited at the finish line, I looked to my left across a huge field and that gorgeous flag and firetruck that you see above, are what I saw. I can't tell you how poignant it felt to realize that we'd gone to sleep Friday night with the news that they'd caught the second Boston marathon bomber and then to wake up the next morning and head out to cheer on our own marathoners. It was a really special thing to be a part of and I felt so proud, as I looked over and saw that flag, that firetruck and that firefighter. I felt proud of all of the first responders and law enforcement agencies that have worked together this week, as we've had a couple of pretty huge and devastating events around our country, both in Boston and in Texas. I felt so proud of our flag and this country -- the land of the free, the home of the brave.
And I felt proud of these two girls....my sweet friends, running with smiles on their faces.
I'm so glad we got to be a part of this special race on this particular morning. So touching.
And I'm so glad we get to live in the land of the free, the home of the brave.
