Our sweet doggie boy is TWO years old today!! Can you even believe it? Some of you have been around long enough to remember the story of how we ended up bringing Windsor home....how we lost our dear Riley dog suddenly and while grieving the loss of Riley, then decided to bring home another puppy to love.
You might remember Windsor's puppy pictures.....oh, that boy could melt me. We brought him home when he was 8 weeks old. Seriously, is there anything cuter than a labrador puppy?!
He still lays exactly like this -- stretched out completely straight. And it still makes me smile every time!! And for an added bonus, every now and then, he'll even cross those two back legs. Awesome. :)
You might remember me telling you that we figured out at about 3 months, that he's got food allergies. You might remember when he was 6 months old and ate everything he could get in his mouth in spite of us watching him like HAWKS, and got a blockage in his stomach and had to have surgery. (Windsor has not been the cheapest dog we ever had! Ha!)
You might remember the first time he played in a baby pool. He couldn't figure out why in the world, we were making him get in a big bowl of water! Haha.
He's a stubborn boy, this one. Completely opposite personality of his brother before him. Windsor is very strong and independent and yet he's afraid of turtles! Hahaa! He's lovey and snuggly when he wants to be and he fights his sleep in the evenings, just like a toddler. I swear, he thinks he's a human. :) He loves to sleep out in the hall by himself while I'm working. And then sometimes, out in the hall is much too far away and he needs to sleep RIGHT. UNDER. MY. CHAIR. I love that boy.
He's silly and super playful. He LOVES other dogs -- even if they're cranky. He LOVES people and smiles at his favorite ones -- literally smiles. I wish I could catch it on film sometime -- it's hilarious. Scrunches up his nose and shows his teeth....the whole nine yards! He loves to sit out front and just people watch in the cul-de-sac. He'll walk through your legs if you let him, just because he likes you.
He doesn't reeeeally want to go for walks every day, but if you make it a game and ask him to run, he'd rather do that! Walking is apparently super boring while running is FUN! For dogs. Oh, and he totally drags behind on the whole first half of the walk. And then eventually if you ask him where does HE want to go, he'll turn around and head straight for home.....with a sudden burst of energy that has him pulling ahead the whole way home! Haha. Stinker.
He'll do just about anything for an apple slice. He's brilliant and will bring you his Green Ball (which we can put a dog biscuit in) or his Red Bone (which we can put two baby carrots in, on either end) depending on which one you tell him to bring. And if he brings it and drops it at your feet, you simply say "Uh-oh!" and he'll pick it up again and put it in your hand.
He comes and sits at the table next to us, when we ask the blessing over our meals, and when the blessing is finished, he gets a baby carrot for being so smart and polite. :)
The last two years have certainly had their fair share of worries and trials with this little boy, but oh my, have they been filled with abundant joys as well. I'm so thankful that we chose to open our hearts to another dog and that God saw fit to lead us to this particular boy. We've certainly been blessed!
Happy birthday, Win baby!
We love you!
