Hi-ya! Welcome to Day 3 of the Papertrey July Countdown!
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on July 15 at 10pm EST.
So for today's first card, I was super inspired by this piece of artwork I found on Pinterest. I decided I wanted to recreate the look with my Delightful Dahlia Additions set and man, I love how it turned out!
I thought I'd show you step by step, how I achieved this look since there were quite a few steps. I won't kid you, with each new step, I felt a bit anxious that I was going to mess things up because I was loving how it was looking already, but with each new step, I was thrilled with what that next little touch added in depth and dimension! So my advice to you is to just TRY.....don't be scared! After all, it's just paper and ink. You can always start over!! :)
Ok, so here are some step-by-step photos. The first thing I did was stamp my flowers and leaves from Delightful Dahlia Additions....raspberry fizz ink on all three flower layers and simply chartreuse and new leaf inks on the leaf layers.
It's pretty already, right? You could totally stop here and just add a sentiment if you wanted! But that's not what I did..... :)
Next, I used my hawaiian shores reinker and some water and watercolored the rest of the background. You want to make sure this is completely dry before you go any further. I used my heat tool to speed the process up a bit.
Next, I covered the flowers with scratch paper and stamped a little Background Basics: Sheet Music with soft stone ink......super soft and subtle! I didn't worry if the image came out a little spotty -- that sort of adds to the distressed look.
Then I added some distressing with the vintage touch tea die ink by dragging the little ink cube over the card stock in sort of a cross hatch pattern, framing the center. This was one step that I was pretty worried about....after everything else was looking so pretty, I was afraid I'd wreck it but I LOVED the results of adding just a touch of the distress ink!
Lastly, I stamped the frame and a couple sentiments from Boutique Borders: Love with dark chocolate ink and I added a bit of glitter to the centers of the flowers.
And here's the completed card. This is basically a one-layer card, however I chose to mount the artwork to a card front so as to hide the back of the watercolored panel -- so I guess technically it's a two-layered card. ;) Also, the water and heat from the heat tool cause the card stock to warp just a bit. So by adhering it to the front of a card base, it's easy to flatten out the warping. Just use quite a bit of adhesive to make sure it's all flattened out and voila! -- a nice and flat, easily mailable but gorgeous card!
The close-ups let you see the glitter on the flower centers a bit better.
What do you think? This was way more artsy than I usually get, but I adore how it turned out. I definitely need to not be afraid to work in layers like this more often!
I've kind of been on a roll with watercolor lately and decided to add a bit of ombre watercolor to the background on this one, adding more ink at the top of the panel and more water towards the bottom.
The flower was stamped with two layers of hawaiian shores ink topped with a new leaf layer. The leaves were stamped with new leaf ink. The sentiment from Signature Greetings finished things off.
One more for today....on the rustic cream background, I stamped half of the Boutique Borders: Love frame four times (hawaiian shores ink) to create a frame around the focal point!
The sentiment panel was die cut with the new Mat Stack 7 die and was stamped with a frame and sentiment from the new Scrolling Script stamp set. (More on all of that at Nichole's blog!)
On the hawaiian shores card base, I used the cover plate: hexagons as an impression plate, in the vagabond. I love how it coordinated so well with the hexagon focal point.
For today, you'll want to be sure to visit Nichole Heady, Melissa Phillips, Ashley Newell and Danielle Flanders for lots more sneak peeks. Heather Nichols, Lizzie Jones and Melissa Bickford will have peeks at their new sets as well.
All righty, that's it for me today, but I hope you've enjoyed these projects! I'll be back tomorrow with lots more to share!
