Hi again! Welcome back for day 2 of the Papertrey March Countdown! I'm so glad you're here.....I've got lots to share with you today! On top of more Background Basics: Art Deco and Birthday Classics: March and April projects to share, I also get to help introduce you to Gatsby Glamour and the new Cover Plate: Deco die, designed by Nichole Heady! Let's get right to the projects....we've got a lot of ground to cover! :)
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on March 15 at 10pm EST.
One thing I always think of when I think about art deco design, is lots of gold and silver. It seems that the gilded age was a shimmery one ;) and because of that, Background Basics: Art Deco was practically begging for some gold and silver heat embossing! I couldn't wait to try it out when I had the set in my hands and I'm so excited for you to see the results today!! I realize I sound a bit like a proud mama when I say this, but doesn't Background Basics: Art Deco looked amazing when heat embossed?!? Oh my goodness, I love it! I stamped the arches with versamark ink and then heat embossed them with gold embossing powder and then added the diamond accents with hawaiian shores ink. But just think about the zillion different color combinations you could do here.....the diamonds could also be done in gold embossing or they could be stamped in any color you can dream up.....I could have reversed things and stamped the arches in a color and accented with gold embossing....the sky's really the limit with the looks you can achieve with this set!
As for the sentiment, it's from Gatsby Glamour and I stamped it and the bracket underneath it, in hawaiian shores ink. I then trimmed out the bracket detail with paper snips and adhered it to the top of the card. A simple strip of hawaiian shores card stock, a button and some twine finished things off.
Just another look at the detail......isn't it scrumptious? :)
So next up, I decided to go colorful!
But I couldn't walk away from the gold just yet. ;) I used the new Cover Plate: Deco to cut out both pure poppy and rustic cream frames and popped the pieces together. I also used the Cover Plate: Deco to cut out some copy paper which I used as a mask, and then stamped Background Basics: Art Deco in the center of the frame on a raspberry fizz card base. I stamped the arches in pure poppy ink and then added the diamonds in gold embossing powder. This looks soooo pretty in real life! Just make sure that the ink on your arches is fully dried before you add the embossing powder to your diamonds.
I added a die cut bracket from Gatsby Glamour, stamped in pure poppy ink, just under a sentiment strip of rustic cream card stock.
This time, I thought I'd show you some gold AND silver. :)
I used the new Gatsby Glamour frame stamp and die, to create this frame, which I heat embossed with gold embossing powder. And then, I stamped a Gatsby Glamour sentiment in the center, on the rustic cream card base, which I heat embossed with silver embossing powder.
This time, I heat embossed the arches with silver embossing powder and did the diamonds in gold. In person, this looks SO glam!
Next up, a bit more color! I pulled out a couple of other stamp sets that I knew would work so well with Background Basics: Art Deco.....starting with Ruby Rose, which was inspired by the vintage decor in one of the gorgeous rooms at the Biltmore Mansion.
I stamped the arches with berry sorbet ink on berry sorbet card stock, and then stampd the diamonds in pure poppy ink.
For the sentiment, I chose a "thank you" from the new Keep It Simple: Thank You -- more on Nichole's blog about that this week. The frame around it is from the Recipe Box Label stamp set. I used the Ruby Rose dies and stamps to add the pure poppy flowers and simply chartreuse leaves.
Now, how about we switch gears just a bit.....here is a Birthday Classics: March card for you!
The gelato cups were created with Foodie Fun stamps and dies.....the cups were stamped with dark chocolate ink, the gelato flavors with hibiscus burst, summer sunrise and berry sorbet inks, and the cookies on top, with kraft ink.
Each of the gelatos was layered on some die cuts in coordinating colors and cut out with the new Limitless Layers: 1 1/2" square dies.
I used three of the sentiment building stamps from Birthday Classics: March, to create the sentiment, stamped in hibiscus burst and dark chocolate inks.
Ok, so another thing Background Basics: Art Deco was practically begging for, was an ombre effect and here is the result. Fun, no??? :)
Firstly, let's talk about the sentiment.....it's from Birthday Classics: April and it was stamped in new leaf ink on a wine bottle tag die cut -- I simply used the lower portion of the die to cut out the white card stock. Above and below the sentiment, I added one of the bracket stamps from Gatsby Glamour, stamped in ripe avocado ink.
As for the background, I stamped each row of arches in the same color as the diamonds tucked in that row. The ink colors from bottom to top are: hawaiian shores, tropical teal, ripe avocado, new leaf, simply chartreuse and limeade ice.
TIP: I always stamp background patterns starting at the bottom and working my way up.
So once I made the card, I got to think about how much I love that ombre pattern and thought about how cool it would be on bookmarks, using that same wine bottle tag die......that's how these were born. Haha!
The colors on the left tag, are the same as the card above. For the right tag, I stamped them in: summer sunrise, orange zest, terracotta tile, pure poppy, and berry sorbet.
Aren't they FUN?!
And then, of course, I knew I needed to try one in rainbow colors too -- see example on the right. :) Colors: hawaiian shores, new leaf, summer sunrise, orange zest, pure poppy.
All righty, if you're still with me after all that, you'll want to be sure to visit Nichole Heady for lots more sneak peeks. Heather Nichols, Erin Lincoln, Lizzie Jones and Melissa Bickford will have peeks at their new sets as well.
What are you thinking of Background Basics: Art Deco, Birthday Classics: March and Birthday Classics: April so far? I'd love to hear from you!
