Hi there!
Welcome back for another fun Papertrey Group Post! You are in for a treat today, let me tell you! Erin Lincoln has done it again and has created a new set of dies that are totally ingenius and easy to use, besides! They will allow you to create your own coin purses EASILY! The coin purse I created above, is about a 45 minute project!!
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on March 15 at 10pm EST.
Nichole asked us to find a photo to use as inspiration and below is the one I found...
Isn't that coin purse so pretty? It looks so lush! I decided to try my hand at recreating that look, but with Papertrey dies! Here is the end result.....
I used melon berry felt to create the whole thing. And to embellish the front, I die cut 7 small feathers from the Feather Finery die collection. Since I wasn't adding the stamped feather image to these die cuts, they looked a little like pickles to me! Hahaha. So, in an effort to make them look more like feathers, I used scissors to snip little slits on either side, angling the slits just like on the inspiration photo. I LOVE the end result! Can you just imagine this coin purse in a ton of different colors? I'm thinking an aqua mist one would be soooo pretty!
Ok, so firstly, let's talk about the zipper. Let the record show that this is the first zipper I've ever sewn in my entire life!! Haha. Above is what the coin purse looked like in progress.
To start things off, you'll die cut the large piece for the coin purse. Erin's dies have stitching holes right in them, so you can hand stitch these easy peasy. I, however, decided to machine stitch this to make it go even quicker and I love the results! I just stitched right over the stitching holes.
After you cut out the main coin purse piece, then you use the zipper hole die, to cut out a hole for the zipper wherever you want it to go. You can see above, that I put the zipper right in the middle of the panel, which then when folded in half, puts the zipper right at the top of the coin purse. (Count the holes on either side to easily make sure that you've got the zipper die right in the middle.)
Oh, and when sewing in the zipper and you get to the end with the zipper pull, raise the presser foot on your sewing machine and unzip the zipper, sliding the zipper pull out of the way so it's not in the way of your presser foot when you're sewing that end.
Before I sewed the coin purse up, I needed to sew the feathers on the front. I sewed 4 on first, and then added the last three over the top. Once they were all sewn in place, I folded the coin purse in half and stitched around 3 sides (leaving the zipper at the top side). A word of warning -- go slowly around the curved corners! Haha. In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that I went a little too fast on the corners the first time around and didn't like that they weren't super neat and tidy. So I pulled the stitching out and sewed it up again -- easy peasy -- but the second time, I went super slow on the corners. Much better! Even with all that, this project was done in under an hour!
Here's what the back side looks like. I left mine plain, but Erin has also designed pocket dies, so that you can easily add a little pocket to the back (or front!) if you'd like!
To go with my coin purse, I used the same coin purse die on melon berry card stock, and created a cute little card! Here, I used one of the coin purse pocket dies, to add a little pocket to the front! I die cut the melon berry pocket and then stamped it with dots from Polka Dot Basics III. Next, I stitched on a couple more feathers and then stitched the pocket to the front of the card. It's the perfect place to tuck a little money that the recipient can then carry in her coin purse. ;)
I also whipped up a coordinating gift tag which I tied right on the zipper pull with some cotton twine.
I used the new Tag Sale #10 dies to cut out the main tag from rustic cream card stock as well as the frame/frame center portions from cream and melon berry card stocks. The little flag is also part of the Tag Sale #10 die collection and I stamped it with the "celebrate!" from Birthday Classics: March -- a perfect fit! I stamped the tag with more Polka Dot Basics III and sewed on a couple more felt feathers to finish things off!
Here's the whole ensemble together. Fun, yes? :)
Ok, so before I go, I have a few more cards to share with you. First up, Background Basics: Art Deco!
The card base is rustic cream card stock and I added a second rustic cream panel on top, that was stamped with Background Basics: Art Deco. The arches were stamped with raspberry fizz ink and the diamonds with pure poppy ink.
I added a raspberry fizz card stock strip that was stamped with a sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday, using pure poppy ink. Lastly, I die cut and stamped some Harvest Berries leaves using hawaiian shores ink. Such a cheery birthday card!
Here's another happy card! The butterflies are from Beautiful Butterflies and were stamped with hawaiian shores, tropical teal, new leaf and simply chartreuse inks. I purposely off-set the large die cut butterfly just a bit, so that a little of the hawaiian shores butterfly from behind, peeks out.
You might also notice a faint pattern on the largest butterfly.....I inked the arches from Background Basics: Art Deco with versamark ink and "kissed" that stamp onto the butterfly stamp before inking the butterfly with tropical teal ink. That way, there were versamark arches on the butterfly before I topped it with the teal ink. The result is a slight Art Deco pattern on the butterfly's wings!
I used Boutique Borders: Thanks to stamp the frame in smokey shadow ink. The two sentiment pieces from Birthday Classics: March were stamped with new leaf and tropical teal inks.
One more for today! Remember that time Betsy Veldman made a card using the Polka Dot Parade #1 bunny, and made it look like someone was eating all the bunnies on her card? It was adorable!! And I got to thinking, "Wouldn't that same idea be cute on an Easter birthday card? That's how this card came about. :)
The bunny was die cut from dark chocolate card stock and stamped with the coordinating bunny image and topped with a rustic cream die cut "cotton tail". I used a small scalloped circle punch to punch off part of the bunny's ear, leaving "teeth marks". The sentiment pieces are from Birthday Classics: April and were stamped on winter wisteria card stock using plum pudding ink.
The background panel was created with Polka Dot Basics III stamped in winter wisteria ink on rustic cream card stock. And lastly, a few of the accent circles were stamped on top of some of the dots, with plum pudding ink.
Whew! That's it for me today! But the rest of the girls have coin purse projects to share with you too, and I've seen some of them already -- you aren't going to want to miss these!
