Hello there! It's time for the Papertrey April Countdown and this month, I've got the next in the Birthday Classics series to share with you plus, I also get the pleasure of helping to introduce you to a new stamp set designed by Nichole Heady, called Botanical Blocks.
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on April 15 at 10pm EST.
To get started, I thought I'd give you a little tip when watercoloring....I find that watercolors tend to sort of do their own thing and you have to be willing to let go of a little of the control, when using this medium. That's why it's always a good idea to give yourself a back-up in case the first thing you watercolor, doesn't turn out like you want it to.
In this case, I heat embossed this rose image from Botanical Blocks three times, using white embossing powder on kraft card stock. That way, I could play with the watercolors and use whichever one I liked the best, without having to go back and heat emboss another flower, if I didn't love the first one. HOWEVER, sometimes you might get lucky and end up with THREE flowers that you love!! Haha! If that happens, by all means GO WITH IT and make three cards instead of just one! LOL. That's how this card set came about!
Here's the first card. Since I was doing a set of cards, I used the new Birthday Classics: May to add a different sentiment to each!
I used a simple watercolor set to add the watercoloring to each of the flowers. Behind the kraft layer is a white scalloped layer that was die cut with the Monthly Moments: Journal Card 2 that came out last month. I'm quickly falling in love with that die for cards!
Here's a closer look at the Birthday Classics: May sentiment. You can also see here, that I used the cane print impression plate on the background of each card.
Next up is the Tropical Teal version....
And another sentiment combination from Birthday Classics: May....
And finally, the melon berry version.....
And yet another sentiment from Birthday Classics: May!
Next up, is another card that I used both Botanical Blocks and Birthday Classics: May on.
I heat embossed the sunflower image from Botanical Blocks in white embossing powder again, this time on white card stock. This creates such a cool effect when you watercolor the image, because the white lines add definition without getting in the way of all that glorious COLOR! :)
I, once again, used a watercolor set to add the color and then backed the image with some dark chocolate card stock. Peeking out from the side is one of the fabulous frames die cuts, on which I stamped the "Just a note" sentiment from Botanical Blocks, as well as the "Have a great day" sentiment from Birthday Classics: May. I love how great these two sentiments work together!
And of course, the white card base was embossed with the Cover Plate: Hexagons die. Such a crisp, clean look!
I've got one more Botanical Blocks card to share with you.....for this one, I did a little paper piecing.
I stamped the image on several different papers and then cut out each portion and put them together on the berry sorbet layer. The flower is cut from harvest gold bitty dot paper, the flower center is on kraft card stock and the stem and leaves are on ripe avocado card stock. Each layer was stamped with smokey shadow ink.
As for the card base, that's aqua mist card stock and I used one of the tiny decorative images from Botanical Blocks to stamp a teeny background pattern. Lastly, I stamped the "thank you" sentiment from Botanical Blocks 3 times, using smokey shadow ink.
One more for you before I go.....this one featuring the large, fabulous birthday sentiment from Birthday Classics: May!
The card base is stamper's select white card stock and I stamped the sentiment on it with tropical teal ink. Then, I added some die cut and stamped flowers and leaves with the Ruby Rose stamp set, to accent the sentiment. This is a fast and easy, but really cute birthday card you could whip up a stack of in a snap!
All right, that's it for me today, but you'll want to be sure to visit Nichole Heady & Melissa Phillips for lots more sneak peeks. Heather Nichols, Erin Lincoln, Melissa Bickford, Lizzie Jones and Lexi Daly will have peeks at their new sets as well.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed today's projects!
