Hello there! It's time for another Stamp Designer Showcase for Papertrey and this month, I've chosen my Background Basics: Newsprint stamp set to highlight! Background Basics: Newsprint is one of those stamp sets that can work on everything from masculine cards to super girly ones! I've got one of each, in fact, to share with you today! It works well with just about any other set you might have in your collection, including so many of the new releases from the last few months, as I hope you'll see today! ;)
For this first card, I of course went girly. It's who I am....what can I say? :)
If you intend to use the news header stamp from Background Basics: Newsprint (see above), I recommend starting at the top with that stamp and working your way down. That way you get the spacing on the header just right. Since the rest of the background is just the newsprint text, it's spacing doesn't matter quite so much. So I started out by stamping the background on white card stock with smokey shadow ink that I stamped off first, on scratch paper, to lighten the color just a bit. The other thing this achieves is a slightly worn look, which I love with this particular stamp set.
After that, I stamped some leaves from Leave It Be over the top of the newsprint and then die cut and stamped some leaves and flowers from Friendly Flower. The flower is die cut from melon berry card stock and stamped with melon berry ink. The center is hibiscus burst card stock stamped with raspberry fizz ink and it's topped with a melon berry button. The sentiment from Thank You Kindly, was stamped in smokey shadow ink on hibiscus burst card stock. I love how well the flowers and leaves from these two sets work together!
And now for a masculine card. I know these can sometimes be tough, so I kept this one super simple and manly. I started out with a kraft base and stamped the stamps from Background Basics: Newsprint with smokey shadow ink on white card stock. This time I didn't use the header image....just the newsprint text and the "advertisements" stamp at the bottom.
I die cut some white card stock with the wine bottle tag die and stamped it with the large birthday greeting from Birthday Classics: August, and stapled it to the background layer, before adhering both to the card front!
Do you already have Background Basics: Newsprint? Have you played with it recently? Feel free to post a link in the comments section.....I'd love to see what you've made with it! And if you don't have it, hopefully it's made it's way onto your wish list! *wink!*
