Hi there!
Welcome back to Day 3 of the Papertrey Countdown! Today, it's time for a Group Post and we're all highlighting a new stamp set and coordinating cover plate designed by Erin Lincoln, called Chicken Scratch, as well as the new Background Basics: Super Gingham stamp set! I don't know if you're familiar with chicken scratch embroidery -- I wasn't -- but it's pretty darling! Do a quick search on Pinterest and you'll see what I mean! The idea is that you embroider patterns just like you normally would, however you use gingham fabric to embroider on! The color combo possibilities are endless, which you know makes me super excited! And now, we can recreate this fun, vintage-style embroidery with stamps!
For today, Nichole asked us to each find an inspiration photo and then make two cards inspired by that photo -- one simple and one more complex. The photo above, is what I chose as my inspiration piece.
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on March 15 at 10pm EST.
And below is the first of my two cards.....this being the more complex one.
I love how each of the aprons is basically just one color and white, so I created the same idea with strips of white card stock and stamped Background Basics: Super Gingham on each. Then, I went back in with the Chicken Scratch stamp set and stamped little patterns, using the grid from the gingham as my guide. I used either the same ink color or one a bit darker than the gingham, on each strip.
For the sentiment, I chose one from A Cheerful Heart and stamped it in smokey shadow ink.
After I had my strips all stamped, I added some actual stitching to the top row, simply by poking some holes with my paper piercer -- again using the gingham grid as my guide -- and then stitched little x's and crosses with white embroidery floss! Easy peasy, but I love the added texture and detail this gives!
The Chicken Scratch stamp set has a variety of different images that you can use to create a huge array of patterns....seriously, you could stamp a gazillion different patterns and designs with these images. They make background building a ton of fun.....as you'll see on this next card.....!
So this is the simpler of the two cards even though it might not look like it! It was really quick and easy! I interpreted the inspiration photo much more loosely this time. I was inspired by the aqua color and decided to use hawaiian shores again, and this time build a somewhat monochromatic pattern with just aquas and greens. I started again by stamping the Background Basics: Super Gingham -- this time covering the whole white card stock panel with hawaiian shores ink. Then, I used the little 'star' image and stamped it in ripe avocado ink, followed by the curved cluster image, which I stamped four times around each 'star' in new leaf ink. After that, I stamped the tropical teal 'square' around each star and then added one last little curved image in the center of each teal square, with hawaiian shores ink.
After the panel was stamped, I ran it through my vagabond with the new Cover Plate: Chicken Scratch die and I love the added detail this gives, just by punching out all those little holes!
For the sentiment, I used the top of a basic bookmark #2 die cut and stamped two more sentiments from A Cheerful Heart with new leaf and tropical teal inks. A bow tied with embroidery floss finished things off!
Before I go, I have a couple other projects to share with you, using my new products from this release! Let's start with Enclosed: Graduate, shall we? Let's face it, when it comes to graduate gifts, cold hard cash is often at the top of the list of things we give! Am I right? Hahaha! So how about packaging that money (or gift card!) in a really cute way, by decorating a pillow box for the graduate!?
I love that this new Enclosed: Graduate stamp set and dies allows us to create custom graduation cards and tags, but it's so fun to pair those graduation caps with other images to suit the recipient's personality! Suppose you want to create a really feminine gift box.....Just pair the graduation cap with some gorgeous flowers like I've done here and voila! And seriously, this little gift wrap couldn't be easier!
To start out, I die cut some white card stock with the pillow box die. Next, I stamped two sentiments form Enclosed: Graduate, using the score line on the die cut as my guide. Then, I stamped it with images from the new Brushed Blooms stamp set. Above, is what it looked like after I was done stamping and before I folded it up. One strip of adhesive along the little flap at the bottom and presto-change-o, you've got a gift box!
Lastly, I die cut two of the graduation caps from smokey shadow card stock and snipped the bottom off of one of them, so that I could pop up the mortarboard portion with foam adhesive. The tassel was die cut from hibiscus burst card stock and stamped with pure poppy ink, to coordinate with the flowers!
One more for today.....while I had the Brushed Blooms stamp set out, I thought I'd pair it with a sentiment from Tucked In: Congratulations to create a congrats card! Again, this card could be used for several different happy occasions -- work promotion, buying your first home, graduation, etc!
I stamped the Tucked In: Congratulations sentiment first with smokey shadow ink, and then stamped the flowers around it. That way, I was able to build everything around the sentiment placement.
Ok, I'm off for now, but I so hope you've enjoyed today's projects! And don't forget that the other girls on the team have lots of Chicken Scratch inspiration for you today!
