Hi there!
Happy March! The first of the month, of course means it's time for the Senior Team challenge at Papertrey and this month, we're highlighting Maile Belles' Mini Blooms stamp set! This is one of those super versatile florals that can really kind of do it all. Use it for backgrounds or focal points, and they're all likely to turn out beautifully! I had a ton of fun creating these two cards to share with you today....
Firstly, this color combo! Gah! {insert heart eyes}
For this card, I started out with some watercolor card stock -- I just got a pad of it at Michael's. I did some ink "smooshing" (thanks to the inspiration of dear Laura Bassen and Betsy Veldman!) by smooshing the ink pads onto a piece of acetate, spritzing the acetate with some water (enough to let the colors sort of run together) and then I laid the card stock down on top of the ink. The colors smoosh together and you can end up with some watercolor-y works of art! The fun part is that you never know quite how it's gonna turn out, till you pull up the card stock and peek! If you follow me on twitter or instagram, you know that I just did a whole bunch of these one day and then left them alone to dry. When it came time to make this card, I had a variety of 'watercolor' backgrounds to choose from! FUN!
I cut a strip off the top of the watercolor card stock and adhered it above the bottom panel, leaving a gap in between. The sentiment from Mini Blooms was stamped in smokey shadow ink. I die cut some Mini Blooms flowers and stamped them with summer sunrise and harvest gold inks, before adding a little dot of sparkle with my Sakura stardust gel pen. Behind the flowers, I stamped a few leaves and berries from Mini Blooms, directly on top of the watercolor. Some black baker's twine finished this one off!
For this next card, I created little bloom clusters to cover the entire background and goodness, was this fun! My tip for this type of card, is to play with your colors and placement on scratch paper first. Come up with a cluster that you love and in colors that you love BEFORE you begin creating your background. You know I'm fussy about color, so it took me a couple tries, to get the colors arranged in a way that made me happy. Once I got the little arrangement all sorted, it was easy to just duplicate that again and again on the actual card.
At the top of the card, I added a bit of gold bitty dot paper that was trimmed off of one of the new Gold Luxe Foil patterned papers. Beneath that, is a piece of the new striped vellum, that I die cut with the Edgers #3 die and some gold/cotton twine from my stash, finished off the top.
The sentiment, also from Mini Blooms, was stamped right over some of the flowers, using smokey shadow ink and the whole thing was layered on a berry sorbet card base.
All right, friends.....I'm off for now, but be sure to check out what the other girls created with Mini Blooms!
