Hi there!
Welcome back for another fun Papertrey Group Post! Today is a day I'm kind of excited about because there is just so much butterfly goodness to take in! Butterflies are kind of like flowers for me -- they're super versatile and can be used on so many different types of cards including everything from birthday cards to sympathy cards and everything in between. And not only that, but you can use nearly any color combination you can dream up for butterflies, which makes them so fun to work with! You know how much I love to play with color! I've got a whole stack of butterfly cards to share with you today, featuring a slew of new butterfly products! Let's get right to the projects!
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on January 15 at 10pm EST.
My first card features my new Enclosed: Butterfly stamps and dies. I used the above photo as color inspiration for my butterfly and then decided to reiterate the colors on the background too!
I started with one of the new Bold Blossoms watercolor papers -- good grief, those things are fun to color! For this one, I decided to be loosey-goosey and color totally outside the lines. THAT is a fun way to watercolor! Haha! No worrying about staying inside the lines means there is no stress whatsoever! :)
I colored the background with my Zig markers and when it was dry, popped it on a winter wisteria card base.
I die cut the butterfly from watercolor paper and smooshed on some zig marker ink that was spritzed with water. When that was dry, I adhered the "Blessed" frame die cut on top, and stamped two companion sentiment stamps from Enclosed: Butterfly, as well as some butterfly spots on the wings. There are a few different butterfly spot stamps to choose from, that can all be mixed and matched and stamped anywhere you want on the butterfly wings, to add detail.
Next up, is the new Cover Plate: Butterfly, designed by Nichole Heady. I die cut one of the cover plates to use as a guide and laid it over the top of another piece of white card stock. Then, moving it out of the way as needed, I sponged on some various inks, positioning the colors where I knew the butterfly wings would be. When I had all of the ink sponged on the card stock, I die cut the cover plate from that panel, leaving me with perfectly colored butterflies!
I layered the cover plate die cut on a white card base and stamped a sentiment from Bold Blossoms at the bottom.
For this next card, I used several more new products, starting with the Bitty Butterfly stamp set and the Cover Plate: Bitty Butterflies die -- both designed by Nichole.
I started by coloring some Zig markers on a piece of acetate and then spritzing it with water before smooshing it on a piece of watercolor paper. When that was dry, I die cut the Cover Plate: Bitty Butterflies from the panel, leaving me with all of these darling little watercolored butterflies. I then stamped each of them with one of the stamps from Bitty Butterfly, to add detail to the wings. I only used three ink colors to stamp them -- raspberry fizz, melon berry and harvest gold. As I was stamping them, I paid attention to where the watercolor changed on each butterfly, and matched the ink color to the watercolor. In some cases, that meant using two ink colors on the stamp at the same time. I achieved that by inking the stamp with one color and then sponging on the second color on just part of the butterfly.
I used two new stamp sets for the sentiments -- Keep It Simple: Baby and Tucked In: Baby.
Here's another card for you.....this one shows that you can use the new Bold Blossoms papers, even if you don't want to color them in! I just adhered one to a card base, to add a gorgeous black and white floral behind that big ole butterfly! ;)
Both of the Enclosed: Butterfly dies were used to cut out hawaiian shores card stock. On the back layer, I stamped the large wing detail stamps from Enclosed: Butterfly with new leaf ink, followed by the little spots from the set, with tropical teal ink.
Here is the other sentiment from Tucked In: Baby -- both sentiments from the set pair so well with the word "Blessed" on these Enclosed: Butterfly dies!!
Ok, so I have one more card for you before I go.....Here's another inspiration photo first. I loved the orange paired with blue, but of course you know I had to make mine more turquoise because....well, because I love that more! Haha! Here you go....
I die cut the Enclosed: Butterfly from watercolor paper and stamped the little dots in terracotta tile ink. Next, I watercolored the aqua colors with Zig markers and a water brush. Once that was completely dry, I stamped the large wing detail images with smokey shadow ink and then topped it with a 'thank you' from Thank You Kindly.
Behind the butterfly, I used the new Outlined stamps and dies, to add the terracotta tile frame, and then added the white panel and strip of bitty dot vellum.
All right, friends....that's all the butterfly projects I've got for you today, but my teammates have LOTS more to show you so be sure to visit them all!
