Hi there!
Today is the last of this month's group posts at Papertrey! We've got a bit of a surprise for you, because today we're introducing a huge collection of new stitching dies from Erin Lincoln, called the Hoopla collection, as well as a few other companion dies! They allow you to create your own little works of art in embroidery hoops and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed stitching this little ditty up! I can see giving these as gifts to friends and family. I know this one, here in my studio, is sure making me smile! :)
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on April 15 at 10pm EST.
Let me tell you about my project......I started out with a 5" embroidery hoop and some cotton fabric I had on hand. I used the new Stitched Cloud and Stitched Smile Sunshine dies to cut out my felt pieces.
For the sun, I die cut the circle (which has stitching holes) and I also used the holes-only sun rays die, to die cut the fabric. I didn't put any backing on my fabric or anything.....I just ran it back and forth three times in my big shot. It punched out the stitching holes perfectly. I put the fabric in the hoop, added the felt circle on top and stitched it in place following the sun rays stitching holes.
For the cloud, I used the cloud die w/holes and cut out the white felt cloud. But before running it thru the vagabond, I also positioned the holes-only "smile" word die inside the cloud die, so I was able to cut out the cloud with the word "smile" on it, with just one pass through the vagabond. I also used the little heart dies from the Stitched Cloud die set, to cut out the berry sorbet hearts.
There is also a holes-only cloud die, which you can use to cut out the holes in the fabric, and then you'd layer the die cut cloud over the top and stitch through both. However, it's no trouble at all, to stitch thru lightweight cotton fabric like I used here, so I didn't even bother cutting holes for the cloud in the fabric. I simply stitched the "smile" on the cloud and then stitched the cloud to the fabric. Did you notice that my little cloud has a silver lining? ;) I couldn't resist!
Lastly, I stitched the little hearts to the fabric, below the cloud. I just arranged them where I wanted them, and stitched them in place....again, no stitching holes in the fabric itself. However, the hearts are die cut with stitching holes built in.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, I used all 6 strands of embroidery floss, on all my stitching. It's just personal preference....I prefer the way the thicker stitching looks. But if you don't like that as much, you can always use less strands, for thinner stitching lines.
I'm off for now, but be sure to check out all the hoop art from my dear friends today!!
