Hey there!
Happy May Day! We're bringing you a fun Senior Team Challenge at Papertrey this month....we're highlighting the previously released City Scene and City Scene Sentiments stamp sets!
I have loved the Eiffel Tower ever since I first laid eyes on it in real life....I honestly didn't know how much I would love it until I was standing beneath it! And then later that first night we were in Paris, and I saw that Eiffel Tower lit up in twinkle lights?! I was completely smitten! It was just so beautiful and I was in love. That was all there was to it! Needless to say, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Eiffel image in the City Scene stamp set! So today, I'm excited to show you the fun way I incorporated that image into two very different cards, and how I achieved some depth and dimension with the image, in both cases!
First up, let me tell you about this colorful card...!
When you see pictures of the Eiffel Tower, often times, there are other things in the shot, blocking that perfect view of the tower. It's not often, that you get a clear shot, for all of the other buildings and trees and such, that are around it. So I wanted to recreate the look of rows of streets and houses, with the Eiffel off in the distance. I started out by stamping rows of buildings. I used the various two-step building stamps from City Scene, and stamped a row of darker grays (stormy sea & smokey shadow, stamped off once first) and a row of lighter grays (soft stone & smokey shadow, stamped off twice first). I varied the height of the buildings, not worrying about where the bottom edges ended up, because I knew I was going to cover the bottom edges up. This allowed me to create a varied look to each street.
Then, I stamped the colorful street, stamping the colors in a kind of rainbow order. The colors I used are as follows, from L-R: aqua mist/ocean tides, hawaiian shores/tropical teal, green parakeet/new leaf, limeade ice/simply chartreuse, bright buttercup/summer sunrise, melon berry/orange zest, berry sorbet/pure poppy, raspberry fizz/autumn rose, blueberry sky/enchanted evening and winter wisteria/amethyst allure.
I put foam adhesive between the top two layers, to add dimension.
Then, on the card front, I stamped the Eiffel peeking out from behind the buildings, as well as a sentiment from City Scene Sentiments!
Man, this card makes me want to go back to Paris!! :)
Next up, I used the "merci" from City Scene Sentiments, to create a subtle background, by stamping it repeatedly in soft stone ink. Then, to make that background really pop, I die cut some berry sorbet card stock with the Center Style: Feminine die and then trimmed the top and bottom off to pop them behind my card stock panel to add the pointed scallop detail. Next, I cut the center portion of the leftover die cut right down the middle vertically, so I could put the little dashed strip on either side of my white panel.
This is a great way to really stretch your supplies -- that Center Style die cut was too small for the look I was going for, but by cutting it apart and using the pieces behind my background panel, I was able to get more mileage out of that die and achieve the look I was going for at the same time!
I added a sentiment strip with a "thank you" from Keep It Simple: Thank You and then topped it with a die cut Eiffel Tower. I cut the tower twice -- one from white card stock and one from stormy sea, and adhered the stormy sea layer behind the white layer with it slightly off-set, to create a bit of a shadow. When I stamped the Eiffel, I inked it up with berry sorbet ink and the top and pure poppy ink at the bottom, to create an ombre effect! Who doesn't love an ombre Eiffel Tower? ;)
I hope you've enjoyed today's projects! Don't forget to pop over and visit the other girls on the Senior Team, so you can check out their City Scene projects too! You won't want to miss them!
