Hello there, friends! I hope your summer is off to a great start! Around here, it's time for the Papertrey June Countdown and this month, I'm bringing you a handy-dandy little sentiment set that may not seem like such a big deal, until you see just how versatile it is and how well it can help to stretch your existing stamp collection and maybe breathe new life into some other sentiments that you've had for years!
You know how we've all got those basic sentiments that just say things like "Happy Birthday" or "Happy Anniversary" or even "Happy Father's Day"? But after you've used them a few times, you start to get kind of bored with them or maybe you just wish they said a little bit MORE?? That's where The Skinny stamp set comes in! The Skinny is a collection of 19 long, skinny sentiments that can be used in addition to nearly any stamp you have in your collection, to add just a little extra sumpin'-sumpin' to your card!
Take the above card, for instance. That burger that Lizzie designed a couple months back is DANG cute, right? But when you add that little sentiment from The Skinny on the "table" under the burger, it takes a basic father's day greeting and sweetens it up just a bit!
All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on June 15 at 10pm EST.
To start off, let's talk about the background. We have a fancy new Whole Foods nearby and this particular location has a cute little tap room/restaurant on one side. We love to go for burger night and get a super cheap AND delicious burger and fries and when they bring them out in their little red basket, they have a piece of newsprint tissue/paper lining the basket. So cute. So, that was my inspiration for the background here. Plus, once I got the card done, it kind of reminded me of Wendy's, too. Haha.
Anyway, I pulled out my too-long-neglected Background Basics: Newsprint and stamped it with smokey shadow ink, stamping it off once first, to lighten the gray.
Next, I used the King of the Grill stamp set to stamp my giant Father's Day burger and then I quickly fussy cut it with paper snips. Easy peasy.
Oh, when I stamped the bun, I "toasted" it ever so slightly, by inking it with kraft ink and then before stamping, sponging on a bit of summer sunrise ink just around the bottom and top edges.
The sentiment from The Skinny says, "So grateful for all the ways you've blessed me" and that is exactly how I feel about my Dad. Can't wait to give him this card.....I think he's gonna grin from ear to ear! :)
Next up is a pretty simple card that packs a lot of punch! I started with a panel of white card stock and stamped one of the images from Brushed Off repeatedly, overlapping the colors as I went. Then I stamped the "hooray" from Scribbled Sentiments followed by another of the sentiments from The Skinny. This card would be so cute for a tween girl after a major accomplishment at school, or even a little girl who did something special that deserved a bit of recognition!
For the card base, I used a new die that you'll want to keep an eye out for at Nichole's blog....there will be more info, coming this week! :)
I busted out the Zigs and some watercolor card stock and my water brush for this one. I scribbled on some color and then added water. When it was dry, I ran it through my Vagabond, but left all the pieces in tact and popped the whole thing on my card front.
I used one of the Big Hugs dies to cut out the "Hugs" and then added another sentiment from The Skinny along the bottom. Oh, and those scallops? Same die as the card above. Stay tuned. :)
Here's a sweet little number....I used the Floral Sketches stamps and dies and some watercolor card stock with my Zig markers again, to create those flowers. Instead of stamping the color, I colored it on with markers and then added water. When they were dry, I stamped on the detail images from Floral Sketches, with smokey shadow ink.
I used the new Big Basics: Love You die, to cut out that pretty sentiment.....there are several of these dies, designed by Nichole Heady, coming out this month and they all work perfectly with The Skinny stamp set!
Along the side of the card, I added another of the sentiments from The Skinny. You could use this sentiment for bridal/baby showers, birthdays, mother's/father's day, graduation, weddings, and so much more! And yes, more scallops....I'm kind of in love. :)
Ooh, now for this one, you might notice a new color. Stay tuned for all the details, but how pretty is the Pale Peony with Canyon Clay?! Especially that smaller flower where the Canyon Clay is stamped off once to soften it just a bit? Love!
I used the Brushed Blooms stamp set here, as well as the Center Style: Feminine die. The "Always" is from Brushed Blooms and "Wishing I was there with you" is from The Skinny. Aren't they perfect together?!
Behind the focal panel is a strip of Autumn Chicken Scratch paper, a strip of Beautiful Beads paper and then some Stormy Sea bitty dot. Lots of layers and textures on this one.
And speaking of texture, I've got one more for you today. I used one of the Modern Background stencils and some texture paste, to create that fun, shiny background! I just laid the stencil over the card stock, smeared the texture paste over the top with a palette knife, lifted off the stencil and set the card stock aside to dry. Easy peasy, but so cool looking!
I used another of the new Big Basics dies here - Thanks - and cut out two of them, layering the black one over the top of the white one.
The gray patterned paper is from the Floral Sketches coloring pages collection and I added a bit of old My Mind's Eye baker's twine around the whole thing.
I love this sweet sentiment from The Skinny. :) It makes me smile. Also, more scallops. And more Pale Peony card stock. Lots of good stuff here!
That's all I've got for today, but I'll be back tomorrow!
For today, you'll want to be sure to visit Nichole Heady, Betsy Veldman, Heather Nichols and Lizzie Jones for lots more sneak peeks. Erin Lincoln and Maile Belles will have peeks at their new sets as well.
Have a great weekend, friends!
