Hellooooo!
I hope you've been having a wonderful Papertrey Stamp-a-Faire day so far!! It's now time for the Masterpiece Inspirations challenge! Nichole challenged each of us on the Design Team, to choose an artist that inspires us and to create a card inspired by a particular work from our favorite artist.
Monet has long been my favorite artist and his various Waterlilies paintings, my favorites of his works. He painted quite a few of them, and they can be found in museums all around the world, and I feel very fortunate to have seen several of them up close and in person at various locations. We even have one of these giant masterpieces at our museum, right here in our city and it still thrills me every time I see it! This particular one above, I haven't seen in person, but it pulls at my heart strings just a bit more than some of the others, because of the amazing colors.....that murky teal water paired with the greens of the lily pads and the bright little pops of color from the flowers! Oh, it just makes me so happy! I couldn't wait to create my own little Monet-inspired art!
I turned to watercolor right away, because I wanted to create the feel and movement of that gorgeous watery background in his painting. I used my Zig markers and a water brush, on some watercolor card stock, to create this background, blending just three marker colors -- a teal, green and gray. Once it was dry, I stamped the sentiment (from Floral Sketches) in smokey shadow ink and adhered the whole panel to a green parakeet card base.
To add those little pops of color from the flowers, I reached for Floral Sketches again, and used similar yellows and pinks like Monet used in his painting. I took the liberty of adding a few leaves, just to balance things out. They sort of serve as my own version of the lily pads.
