Hi there! It's time for a Design Team Tips post for Papertrey Ink, and this week, I'm up to bat!
I sometimes forget what an impact it can have, when you stamp your card front and then die cut a large portion directly out of your stamping and pop it up with foam adhesive. It can take an otherwise flat card front and really make it something special, adding great detail and interest! I’ve recently fallen in love with this look all over again and am looking forward to sharing my cards with you, as well as a couple of tips I’ve picked up along the way!
Here's a tip: Before you start stamping, gather the components you think you might want to use, and lay them out on your work space as though they were the card front. This allows you to play with placement and color, before you even get to the paper part of your project! Here's a pic I took, at the beginning of this work in progress....
I gathered the dies and stamps I wanted to use, but as you can see, I only ended up using two of the three sentiment stamps. But I had several out as options, all of which, I had placed inside the oval die, so I knew they'd be a perfect fit. I also gathered ink colors I thought I might want to use, but as you can see on the finished cards, I ended up scrapping the summer sunrise and just using the other four colors. Not everything that you lay out right from the start, may make it on to your finished card, but it gives you some room to play and you can allow the card to really develop, once you start stamping.
Another thing you can do is to get all your stamping done first and then die cut your large shape from your card front after the fact.
But here's another tip: By die-cutting both the white pieces first, I was able to easily line up the sentiments directly in the middle of the oval with no guess-work at all!
I used the New Every Morning stamp set and some Archival black ink to stamp the sentiments. I stamped them in my MISTI, which allowed me to stamp them more than once, to get them nice and dark. Then, I moved to the Beautiful Berries: Spring stamp set, stamping both card fronts one right after the other before repositioning each stamp in the MISTI.
And just to keep things interesting and change it up a bit, I layered each card front on a different colored card base. As you can see, you could certainly just have an all-white card base and do your stamping on the front and call it good. But by popping up a big portion of the card front, it really adds a lot of dimension and detail that wouldn't be there otherwise!
I hope I've inspired you to give this a try the next time you sit down to create!
Have a great day, sweet friends!
