Hello there! Papertrey has a brand new feature for you each week, where we're throwing it back and pulling out a previously released product and bringing you some fresh inspiration....every single week! For today, we're showcasing the Favor It Box 9 Dies with which you can make the cutest little baskets ever! I already thought it was adorable (and it comes together SO quickly!), but during the recent anniversary festivities, I made a card on which I added a pretty woodgrain texture in a very fun color combo. I thought it would be fun to try and recreate that same woodgrain combo on this sweet little basket and holy cow, I love how it turned out! I’ve got some tips to help you out, if you decide to whip one of these up for yourself! Let me tell you all about it!
First off, you definitely want to watch Nichole's video in this post on how to assemble this basket. You will quickly see just how EASY this basket is to make! It comes together in just minutes! For my basket, I added the step of creating the woodgrain texture, but even still, it was a quick little basket to make!
I used the new Woodgrain Stencil to add the texture. I die cut all the pieces I needed for the large basket (there are two sizes of basket you can make with this die set) and then took the two basket side strips and ran them thru my Vagabond again with the woodgrain stencil and the tan/vanilla embossing mats, to emboss them. The strips are narrow enough that you can run them both thru the die cutting machine with the woodgrain stencil at the same time. However, they're longer than the stencil, so after you run them both thru once, you'll need to scoot them up and run them thru one more time.
TIP: By turning the Woodgrain Stencil so that the pattern runs vertically on the side of the basket, you can easily disguise the seam that the edge of the stencil creates when you have to run it through a second time. That seam just blends in with the rest of the woodgrain pattern.
After you emboss the woodgrain onto the card stock, simply position the stencil over the top of the card stock again, lining up the pattern just as it was while embossing. It might take a second to get it all lined up, but it's easy to see. Once it's lined up, take your ink blending tool and go over the whole thing -- stencil and card stock -- with ink. When you remove the stencil, only the raised portion of the pattern will be inked with color, thus creating a gorgeous two-toned pattern! Just think of all the color combos you could try with this technique!!
For that sweet little tag, I used the Tremendous Treats die and simply stamped a sentiment from the new So Sweet stamp set. Lastly, I added some leftover die cut berries that I'd created recently with Beautiful Berries: Spring, and were laying on my desk! They were the perfect little accent!
I hope you've enjoyed this Throwback Thursday project!
Until next time, have a goodie!
