Hi Friends,
Watercoloring embossed backgrounds is such a fun way to add a lot of detail and interest to your cards and other projects! The new Mix & Mat dies are great for this sort of application, because they can add so much texture when embossed onto watercolor card stock. That alone looks gorgeous, but you can take it a step further by adding watercolor to all those little embossed shapes and the opportunities for playing with colors is nearly endless! I had so much fun creating this little mat to hold my flowers -- and just look at how well the Gran's Garden and Garden Party flowers play together!
So to start out, I die cut some watercolor card stock with the Mix & Mat: Scallops dies, using both the scalloped and stitched dies. Then, I mixed it up and pulled out the brand new Mix & Mat: Pretty Brackets detail die and embossed that into the center of my watercolor panel, using the tan & vanilla embossing mats. Next came the fun part. I just used three Zig markers to add a bit of color just to the right side of each little diamond and then went over it with a water brush to watercolor the whole diamond. When that was dry, I went back in with just a bit more color topped with a bit more water in each diamond, to create more texture and a less blended-out look.
I stamped a sentiment from Ways to Say: Birthday on the saffron spice card front. I'm loving the stamps in that series! So handy!
Lastly, I added my die cut flowers, using a variety from the new Garden Party set as well as one from the Gran's Garden set! I love how well they play together! Don't be afraid to mix and match more than just your Mix & Mat dies!! These floral sets compliment each other beautifully, too!
Thanks for spending a bit of your day with me! I hope I've inspired you to do a little watercoloring on your next embossed piece!
Have a wonderful day, friends!
