Hey there, friends! It's my turn to share some Design Team Tips for Papertrey Ink and today, I'm showing you another fun way to use your stencils!
We all know what great backgrounds you can make with stencils, but with the launch of my new Stencil Basics line in the August release, I’ve been enjoying using them in even more ways. I’ve used them today with the help of a little washi tape, by inking the stencils in smaller strips, directly on the card front, to serve as an accent for the focal point, rather than an entire background. It’s a great way to keep your cards lightweight and easily mailable, yet still super stylish!
To start off, I folded my card base in half and then using a piece of washi tape, stuck it to my work surface. Not only does this hold the paper in place, but the washi serves as a mask, ensuring that the dots are stenciled in a strip on the right side of the card front. Then, I laid the stencil in place, and added a bit more washi to the stencil, so that it wouldn't move while I was inking it up.
I just used two ink colors but by keeping each color lighter on the top and bottom, and more intense in the middle, and by blending the two colors together a bit where they meet in the middle, it looks like I've used way more ink colors! Not only that, but that little strip was inked up and done in a matter of seconds! Stencils are so quick and easy! You definitely don't have to have great ink-blending skills, to get great results with a stencil!
The stencils are all large enough that you can use them in either a vertical or horizontal orientation on your cards. Here, I added the strip across the bottom of the card, with some tropical teal and cocoa bean inks. I topped them with some thin strips of coordinating card stock.
The Hugs die cut has a bit of ink blending on it as well....I added a bit of cocoa bean to the bottom edge of the canyon clay card stock. Lastly, I stamped the companion sentiment from Big Hugs to finish things off.
And here is a closer look at the second card....this time, I went with a vertical orientation and paired the dots with more sentiments from the Big Hugs collection.
I hope I've inspired you to look at your stencils as more than just backgrounds!
Have a wonderful day, friends...
