Hey Friends!
Last week in my Instagram Stories, I promised a quick and easy Christmas DIY project, so I'm popping in to share that with you today! Have you noticed that pom poms are popping up EVERYwhere these days? They're in home decor on bedspreads and throws, pillows and draped as garlands on headboards. They're all over the place for Christmas, dressing up stockings either hanging on the hook with the stocking, or as pom pom trim on the stocking itself. There are pom pom ornaments for trees and pom pom garland for trees, too. And heck, I've even seen people wearing tops with pom pom trim! Pom poms are everywhere these days, and I love them!
So I went to Hobby Lobby the other day, to buy some of the large pom poms I'd seen on instagram, because I wanted to dress up our stockings a bit, but I also wanted to use some to dress up some wrapped gifts. But at $2.50 a pop (or at a pom, I should say!), they were gonna add up fast! So instead, I remembered my pom pom makers that I'd bought several years ago, and that gorgeous stash of yarn in my studio, and decided to make my own.
I have four different sizes of pom pom makers, so I've made them in a variety of sizes for all the things, this year, and it's been so fun! You can whip up your own pom poms in a matter of minutes and it's even something your kiddos can help with! Can you wrap yarn around a thing and use a pair of scissors? Then you can handle this project! Haha. They're that simple! There are directions on the package or you can even do what I did back when I first got the pom pom makers, and just googled a video on how to use them. Easy peasy.
I've added them to our stockings and to lots of gifts, including ones that have gone in the mail because bonus - pom poms weigh next to nothing and therefore don't add much in postage costs, but they look so darn cute!!
I had three skeins of this particular white yarn (I linked it below for you) and I probably paid about $2.50/skein back when I got them. (At the time I'm typing this, they're on sale for $3 apiece.) So nearly the same money that I would have spent at Hobby Lobby on just three large pom poms, I've gotten between 15 and 20 pom poms out of! For $7.50, I'd say 15 or 20 poms instead of 3 is a pretty big win!
Of course, you can use any yarn you'd like and in any color but, shocker I know, I wanted lots and lots of WHITE pom poms this year. Another shocker....it has come to my attention that I don't own a single skein of red yarn. WHAT?!! Don't worry, I plan to rectify that situation soon!! Haha!
Also, you can find these pom pom makers that I have and recommend, at most box craft stores, etc. But I've linked them below for your convenience in case you don't have those stores near you or don't want to fight the crowds this week. The ones I've linked for you at Amazon are on Prime and could be delivered to you tomorrow! ;)
Hope this fun little DIY is helpful to you! Let me know if you'd like to see more things like this in the future....or if you plan on making some pom poms yourself!!! I'd love to hear that, too!
