Hey, Friends! How was your Christmas??? Or maybe you're still Christmas-ing?!
In any case, it's my turn to share a Simple to Spectacular post with you for Papertrey Ink and maybe this will give you a bit of inspiration in case you're gonna get some crafting time this holiday week! The focus of my Simple to Spectacular card trio is the sweet Baker's Dozen stamp set! (Pun intended! Ha!)
I think a lot of times we approach this type of card set from the simple card first and build up from there. But if that's tough for you, or if you get stuck somewhere in the middle and don't know what else to do to step up your basic card two more times, to get to the "spectacular" card, I'd like to suggest that you take the opposite approach! Why not start with a card that's as absolutely spectacular as you can come up with, and then edit it down from there? Take a few things off for the "middle" version of the card, and then take a few more things off for the "simple" card. Sometimes just altering your approach, can make the whole process a bit easier.
In my case, I do something even a bit different than that. I like to create three stacks - one for each card. I start laying out all of the elements I'd like to use on each card and add more or less to each card pile, until I've got them all basically laid out the way they'll be on the card and then all I have to do is pop it all on the card bases. So for this set, I started out with all of the little watercolored cupcakes. On the simple card, I watercolored the cupcake on some watercolor card stock that served as the main layer of the card, and I die cut the cupcakes for the other two cards. I added the frames to each, either stamping directly on the watercolor card stock, or in the case of the busier cards, added the die cut frames to each little stack.

Then, I added the Shape Shifters: Oval layers, again keeping it simple on the first, while adding the die cuts to the other two card piles.

By the time I got to this card, I added a couple of square layers as well as two Delicates die cut layers and once all of the little stacks for each card were complete, I just popped it all together on the card bases. By working in little stacks for each card, it allowed me to add or subtract layers as needed, to really make each card unique but also coordinated.
Have you ever taken this approach to creating a set of cards? Have you ever played along and made your own Simple to Spectacular card trio? I hope I've inspired you to play along this week!! Let me know if you do....I'd love to see what you make! Post your project on the Papertrey blog to be entered to win this week's prize and then you can link your project here in the comments section so I can see, or tag me on instagram!
