Hey Friends!
So I'm popping in with an extra post for you today, because Spellbinders reached out to me and asked if I'd like to make a project to share with you featuring their newest Stamp of the Month! Of course, I was honored they'd ask and so I'm happy to share this fun little project with you! If you're a regular around here, then this is a bonus project for you today and if you're new here because you've come from the Spellbinders crew, then welcome, welcome! I hope you'll come on in and make yourself at home! I'm so glad you're here and I hope you and I can get to know each other a bit in the days to come!
You can visit the Spellbinders website to check out all the details for how their Stamp of the Month kits work but the set they sent me to work with is called Key to My Heart and I used it to make a lovey-dovey card for my sweet hubby. Just so you know, this month's "Key to My Heart Stamp Set" also has a coordinating "Key to My Heart Die Set" (DI-0507), sold separately. *You may add the die at time of subscription. I didn't have the dies, so I just fussy cut my keys and lock, but if you'd like a more polished look, then absolutely grab the dies while you're at it!
I gave you a peek at this pretty background I made last week on Instagram, when I got to playing with some of the new alcohol inks I got for Christmas, and I thought this was the perfect stamp set to pair it with because I knew I wanted to stamp those fun keys and lock in gold, which ties in perfectly with the gold on my background.
To create the alcohol ink background piece, I used a few Copic markers (I used markers, not refills on this piece, and I linked the ones I used below) along with this 91% isopropyl alcohol and the brass ink I also linked below, to add the shine. I colored a bit of marker on the Yupo paper and then added some alcohol onto the ink with a pipette, and then blew it around the paper with my heat tool. Then, colored on a bit more marker color, added a bit more alcohol and heat/blew it some more. I just repeated the process until I was happy with the intensity and movement of the color and then I used another pipette to drop on a bit of the brass ink, followed by more alcohol and more heat tool. SUCH a fun process!
Since I was using a piece of extra thick (!) yupo paper (linked below) for the background, and I'd been using a heat tool over and over on it with the inks, I knew that I could also heat emboss the sentiment on it, and I love how that tied together so well with the gold on the background. I've found that you really need the extra thick yupo if you want it to be able to withstand the heat and not warp.
I stamped the keys on kraft card stock to give them a bit of a vintage look to go with their vintage design and I love how pretty they look when the light hits all that shiny gold! I stamped them in Versamark ink and then heat embossed them with gold embossing powder.
