How about a closer look at each of the ornaments?! This holly jolly ornament is probably my favorite of the group. And really, some of the stitching is simple enough that even kiddos could help. For instance, stitching the letters up, and maybe even part of the stitching of the actual cup. If you use my method of 6 strands of thread and chunkier needles (I have some on hand), it really reminds me of those stitching cards I had when I was a little girl!
On all of the ornaments, I used the full 6 strands of embroidery floss. I just prefer the look of the chunky thread. But when I added beads or sequins, those require a smaller needle, so I just used 2 strands of thread, to add those on after the other stitching was done, and before I added polyfil and stitched up the whole thing.
There are sequins included in the kit, but I decided to put little felt berries on mine, along with the holly leaves, because I wanted to mimic the look of those little blue berries on some pine trees. I cut them from the turquoise felt and stitched them on with clear sequins. So cute!
And gosh, you could do the same thing all over the mug and make a polka dotted mug with the same felt and bead situation!
For this one, I used the snowflake die and then added some beads and sequins. I put some marshmallows on the whipped cream, but the peppermint really took over the top in the cuteness department!
Then, I got to thinking if one peppermint is cute, surely two will be cuter! Haha!
I also decided to try and bulk up the stitching a bit on my Christmas tree, but felt too lazy to learn how to do the optional 'lazy daisy' stitch that comes on the kit instructions (ironic?? Haha!), so instead, I just used a full 6 strands of turquoise thread as well as a full 6 strands of green. I just stitched them together at the same time, and I kind of like how it gives the tree some bulk as well as the color variation and additional interest! Sometimes being a lazy crafter pays off!! LOL!
When the tree was all stitched up, I went back in with two strands of thread and added some beads for ornaments.
There are lots of ways you could use these striped dies, and even lots of ways you could stitch them up. I think this turned out pretty fun, though. And I LOVE the bead/felt/sequin "berry" at the top with the holly! On one of them, I sandwiched a little die cut circle of felt between the bead and the sequin. It's just a tiny little detail that adds a bit more texture and interest!
I also changed up the other two and used two different sizes of sequin. After all, not all berries are exactly the same in real life!
The whole little fam looks so cute all together. It'll be fun to pull these out year after year.
You could add the year to the back of your ornaments and give them as gifts! Such a sweet gift or even a really special ornament for an ornament exchange!!
Lizzie is also releasing a new paper chain style garland die, and you know I had to make one for the studio!! It looks right at home with the other garlands I've been given over the last several years! Such a fun little addition and so easy your kiddos could totally make one!
Here's a little bit closer look. You can see that the turquoise felt is polka dotted. I just flipped it over and used it backwards for my cup ornament! Two options in one felt!
This picture gives you a close look at the little star pattern I used to stitch the little chain links closed. But you (or your littles) could easily just follow the stitching holes and stitch a rectangle instead. I just wanted it to be a bit more decorative with the little criss cross pattern. Even that was super simple though.
This is another thing that would make a really sweet handmade gift for a baby or little girl's room or maybe a craft space like mine. These garlands would even be sweet for birthday party or shower decor!
That's it for me for now. Before you go, leave a comment here to be entered to win a FREE KIT from Poshta Design!! I hope one of you is the winner!
